Al Mialkovsky:We dove all over Maui during our visit. We'd go up to the west end and do a couple of dives and then grab some fresh tanks and head down south. It isn't exactly a huge island.
I, personally, would steer clear of Maui Dive Shop, but that's just me. They don't cater to divers so much as they do tourists... and that's not good in my opinion.Abbenhuys:Hey Guys,
I'm in the process of booking the vacation from the 8th till the 13th. I'm also just in the process of my OW cert.
Any suggestions for me? Hotel, beach/area of maui, other activities (luau), diving? Costs would be greatly appreciated as well (diving only).
I've heard about this catamarang (sp?) w/ a bbq, drinks, diving, snorkeling... anyone know about it?
Feel free to call me: 310-951-9399
Thanks,
Gerry
CAN'T WAIT!! :dazzler1:
Lahaina and S. Kihei have very similar weather patterns. The tradewinds are usually out of the NE. Lahaina is in the lee of W. Maui mountains. The Wailea and the south end of Kihei are in the lee/rain shadow of Haleakala. In both case, as you go a few miles north, the weather changes rapidly. Kahana, for example, or even the N. end of Kaanapali (Pepto Bismol building / Embassy Suites) beach have much more rain than the main resort section of Kaanapali (Black rock and south). Similarly, the north end of Kihei will have a lot more wind and a bit more rain that the south end.KrisB:I would have to disagree with the suggestion to stay in "West Maui" (Lahaina, Kaanapali, etc.) vs. "South Maui" (Kihei, Wailea). ....
Third, Kihei gets more sun (and less rain) than anywhere else on the island. I have stayed in West Maui when the weather has just gotten socked right in, and it wasn't all that pleasant outside. A drive down to Kihei was great those days... but a bit time consuming.
DiveMe:Hey Tim, how much is a gallon of gas now?
