jamiep3:I've been considering getting a back plate, because I plan to do some classes in the future that will require doubles. My question is, since over half of my diving will still be with a single tank, (right now I use AL 100's, but I'm in the process of converting to steel 120's and 100's) will I want to hang on to my regular BC for single tanks or will the plate be good for both? Or would I be better off to go with a BC that can be used for single or doubles (I've looked at the Balck Diamond also).
Not looking to establish why one system is better than the other, just would like to know what other's experience has been.
The plate will work for both and given the size of the singles you're planning on using you'll probably find the BP/wing more stable for your singles than a BCD. Unless there is some compelling reason (like teaching) that you need to keep your old BCD then I wouldn't hesitate to sell it.
Given the range of superior options you have, I personally think investing in a black-diamond isn't a very good long term investment.
