I've been considering getting a back plate, because I plan to do some classes in the future that will require doubles. My question is, since over half of my diving will still be with a single tank, (right now I use AL 100's, but I'm in the process of converting to steel 120's and 100's) will I want to hang on to my regular BC for single tanks or will the plate be good for both? Or would I be better off to go with a BC that can be used for single or doubles (I've looked at the Balck Diamond also).

Not looking to establish why one system is better than the other, just would like to know what other's experience has been.

The only reason why I still have my BCD is that I need it for my DM class. Have used a single tank with a BP/W for the last 40 dives and experienced no problems.

i have a black diamond, and jsut started diving a bp/w, i'm going to use it for singles and doubles, i'm really starting to like how versatile it is. I'm using an STA to hold the tank in place, and it's rock solid..(Thanks FredT)!!

Go with a backplate. If you feel you must try the Black Diamond, I have an old one (one of the first made) that hasn't seen the water in about 8 years I am willing to sell for cheap so that when you realize it was a bad idea you won't be out much money.

Get the backpate! I have one with single tank and no problem and if I want to change to double. There are also wings that are constructed for single or double tank - the wings for single are smaller, for double bigger and wider. You mount just the new wing on the backplate upon your need (double/single) and go to dive - the backplate remains the same (no need of adjustmenst of bands, rings).

Get the Backplate. I have 3 now. My BC (transpac II) only gets used in the pool (teaching). Whether it's singles or doubles I prefer a backplate.

Do you use a dedicated single tank adapter or cam bands on the plate?
Eclipse #30 with STA.

El Orans:
Eclipse #30 with STA.

I completely agree.. Get the Eclipse, use it with the STA for single and when you want to use doubles you can take off the STA and change the wing.
