We are back from our week in Coz, cenotes and mayan ruins. There were lots of good and bad things to report and I will have a trip report on our website up shortly,,, for now though I thought I would share with the RMO the best diving:
http://www.rnrscuba.net/2009Yucatan/Cenotes.html

by far the best diving was the cenotes! We were very disappointed with the Post-Wilma reefs, the shore diving at SCC was great, and Ron loves his new Dslr. :D

Nice shots!! I really need to get down there and dive the Cenotes! They always look SOOO cool.

What kind of camera is Ron using?

Those are great pictures. I am heading to Coz in a week, what dive company did you use for the cenotes? If none, did you use a website that gave you directions to them? They look amazing and I think I'd like to go try them out if we can!

I always tell people who are going down there to schedule their cenote dives early in the week . . . because after the cenotes, you may not want to do all that much reef diving! Sounds like you agreed with me :)

OMG, Kevin! YOu haven't done the cenotes? You GOTTA go!

Ron's camera rig is the one he was diving with last month at the RMO fest but I guess you didn't see it because you were only there on Sunday. It is the Canon 450D/Xsi and Sea&Sea housing that just came out in Feb. He has several lenses and ports and all the $$$ for it. :shocked2: But I guess it was worth it. I have been working on the full Cozumel trip report and should have it posted down on the Cozumel Forum soon, or you can peak at photos on the website link down in my signature! He got some great shots, if I do say so myself. :D

Yes and No....I am still all about reef diving as I love fish and color and because I like to shoot video, it just suits me better. I love to watch fish and critters going about their daily activities, hunting and eating, mating and sleeping.
However, I still enjoyed the cenote dives and will go back down there to do them again! They are just another facet of scuba diving and its all good. :D

Nice cenote report and pics. I'll be there in the heat of July with DEET in hand. I won't miss any opportunity to dive the cenotes. I've been to Dos Ojos, Gran Cenote, Ponderosa and Chac Mool already so I'm looking forward to diving Dream Gates. I'll have to contact Nicholas.

Oh, Ha. I am always too interested by pictures! :) So, to get to the cenotes you have to take a ferry back over there, right? I'm trying to talk my bro-in-law into doing it when we're there in a few weeks but he seems reluctant. Does it burn a whole day in travel to there, dive, and then coming back? I think he's worried about leaving our wifes on the beach for a whole day. (not worried about them, worried what she'll do to him for ditching her) :)

Yes, it burns the better part of a day with the ferry. The dang ferry only runs once per hour and sometimes they skip an hour! That is how we got stuck at the ferry dock for 2 hours.
You will have to take the 9am ferry over, so leave your hotel and be at the ferry dock office by 8:40am to buy ticket and start boarding. It takes about 30 minutes to cross, then you have to get your dive gear or bags you checked.
If you do one of the cenotes closer to town, then you might make it back to ferry dock at 2pm, then buy ferry tickets and ride back to Coz. So the earliest you will be back at hotel is 3pm if you make the 2pm ferry. The ferry schedule is very irregular as we learned....
