Shoot! Sounds like I missed a good time. *sigh* Ah, well. Next month, I guess.
We missed you too, TJ! Sorry you couldn't be there

It was great to meet all of you. I can't believe you guys saw a mola mola and seals and stuff !!! I was hanging over near the west reef with my buddy from a dive at Malaga Cove few weekends ago. And after the first dive, I was leading my baby on a snorkeling tour of the shallow reef. It was very cool. I was all scuba'd up, and she just had her mask, and was hanging on to me as I led her around. She had never snorkeled before, and was thrilled at the schools of fish and stuff. Anyone remember the Superman movie when Superman takes Lois Lane on flight around the city, and at the beginning she's hanging on tight to him with her eyes closed, and as she relaxes they loosen their grip, and finally they're flying by just touching fingertips? That was us. We had a blast.

Anyway, on my first dive, my buddy and I were just cruising around the reef at about 40 ft, and suddenly he give me "out of air" signal. My heart stopped. Turns out he wanted to practice alternate air breathing, but forgot to tell me before the dive. Oooo, I oughtta.... !!!!!! :bash:

Wish we could have joined you guys out at Deadman's, but I had gone there on Saturday with another group and wanted to check out the reefs in close. And after our first dive, we kicked back under the umbrella, my baby fed us, we started snoring....By the time we got up the energy to go back in you guys were already finishing your second dive.

Anyway, next weekend it's Catalina for us, jumping between scuba at the Casino and snorkeling at Lover's Cove.

By the way, yesterday marks my 10th dive. :fruit:

Pasley, did you say that most people get bent in the first 12 dives? Well, maybe I'll just not do dives 11 and 12, and next weekend start with dive 13.

On second thought, maybe 14....

It was a pleasure seeing you again and meeting your SO. I am glad she had a good time. Sunday was certainly a good day for snorkeling. The reef structure on the west side of Crescent or even the East site are good for that, and offer a nice shallow experience at 6 to 12 feet depth with lots to see. You will have her on a regulator in no time with a few more good snorkeling days. Deadmans reef usally rewards you with lots of life and better visibility than in closer. The Mola Mola was a bonus as was the octopus. Did you see the size of that thing in Sean’s pictures? The octopus was large.

And yes, statistically the first 12 dives have a higher probability of DCI. Don't recall where I read that, but I think it was a DAN article two years ago.

This all sounds like a great dive! I guess next time I'll have to get up early and make the drive. I'll keep my eye out for some more opportunities to dive that site! :eyebrow:

Pasley, she's already mentioning "hey, maybe you could go with me with your scuba stuff, and I could snorkel, and when we want to go under I could use your other regulator and we could dive down and look around for a while".

Neat idea. I'll just get another 20 lbs in my weight belt.

Or not.

From our fun Crescent Bay dive... check out the sea lion's imitation of a DIR-style frog kick ;)

Nice shots Jennifer!

AndrewJD's seal looks like it's saying, "Up there! You belong, up there!"

Thanks for sharing those pics with us!

Thanks Christian! As a matter of fact, I think several sea lions thought we belonged "up there"! But there were also many who were just curious.

I have a little video clip on my camera of 5 or 6 of them "tussling" on the sea floor... the funny part was hearing them growling at each other like dogs... you could hear it very clearly underwater and it was making me laugh !

The clip is not good or long enough to bother posting, but I get a laugh out of it!

take care,

jennifer
