I wonder if a tri-glide is secure enough for scootering?

and it goes real fast! I really do like my Abyss plate, I have a Hammerhead also but by far I prefer the Abyss from a coolness factor.
The poster that pointed out to be careful with the web looping when using a triglide was correct - mine once came undone. I have since tightened it.

You could aways ask Andrew and Joe over at 5thd-X as Joe replaced the plastic "stay" I had been using with a tri-glide during DIR-F and recommended against bolting it down when I asked.
I could probably hang on mine from the roof and it would hold - though I'm not sure by how much. As was pointed out, if you have problems with it slipping, you can always feed it back through again on top of itself (like you would a 3 slot weight belt)

Well AG already has a rep for tampering with DIR (j/K). Since I don't scooter, I was just reflecting back on what I thought I read (somewhere) as to the reasoning for the bolt. Given that climbing harnesses use stays folded back on themselves, I have to imagine that would be sufficient.

Scooter is defintely in the future, not sure near. I need to get a dry suit first...then the scooter....if I can also convince at least one of my buddies to get one as well. I do like the looks of the x-Scooter (not sure if I should duck or not), but haven't reviewed the various comparisons in a while. I recall that SS, Gavins, and x-scooters are well regarded.
it does seem as though the X-Scooter has the "cool" factor in it's favor over some of the other good scooters out there, especially after seeing all the videos of guys "surfing" them and playing around in crazy currents on the Dive-Xtras website.

My Hammerhead is bolted. It will rub your suit. It wore a hole in my swimsuit and has rubbed my wet suit as well. In warm water I don't dress as a "Men in Black", just a swim suit and t-shirt or chafe guard t shirt from BodyGlove etc. I took a piece of thin neoprene and formed a sleeve and installed that over the bolt to eliminate rubbing. I also put similar sleeeves on my shoulder. Other than that I think mine is rigged DIR but since I am DIMOW (Do It My Own Way) I really don't care. I use a souped up Tekna scooter, it is fast so I do need the crotch strap, otherwise I might consider ditching it. Actually, at first I thought it would be a pain but even the stiff material provided has been very comfortable and works well even when diving without a scooter. Good luck. N
