Could you have been diving the past four years, with the knob, Not fully open, also reg specialistas
can find it difficult to understand, factory specific adjusments, don't work for everyone or every reg

Why are they there and called adjustments to adjust like peoples thinking about those adjustments

Anything is possible--I do know I NEVER adjust that knob. I have played with it since this issue so I will definitely be looking at that too. Thanks!

I've dived for years without or with a knob, where we've added like to much else a complexity affecting happiness

On my octopuses I screw it fully in to prevent freeflow and that is about the only legitimate reason to have a knob

During one of those knob dives I amused myself watching a mantis shrimp doing its thing in Queensland

Hello! Im getting in the pool today to test the knob. I’ll report back what I find and I am really really hoping it’s as simple as adjusting the knob!

Well, the knob adjustment has everything to do with it! If I turn it down completely it only free flows when the mouthpiece is facing up. I believe a lot of regulators do this— but now if I turn regulator down it stops. The purge no longer free flows when pressed. The more I turn up the flow the more issues with the free flow. I am comfortable with the knob all the way down. I will be going to Roatan in 2 weeks and I will see (with my backup atomic mouthpiece just in case). Crazy that a mouthpiece can cause this! Thanks to all the support this board has provided for this issue!

It need to be adjusted, the micro adjustment inside the knob is likely set to light, take it back to whoever did the service and ask them to adjust it with your mouth piece on it. If they won’t find another shop or call Atomic and ask them to talk to the tech.

This is exactly why the adjustment knob exists. This situation also highlights why it is valuable to buy a second stage with an adjustment knob. It allows a non-technical diver to fine tune out minor free flows or breathing resistance.

Another example: I like to tune my primary regulators to breath light with a low cracking effort. My wife thinks that setting feels to forceful. I showed her how to de-tune with the adjustment knob to her preference and everyone is happy.

My Atomic reg is a bit touchy when the knob's all the way open and I've got the reg out. I use the knob to dial it back for surface swims and surf entries but otherwise prefer it fully open.

With no knob the crowd was happy

and then they put a knob and the crowd was happy

and after the reg guy figured it out the reg guy was happy too

but the crowds pockets were never to be the same again
