First off....Great forum, the wealth of information here is superb!!

I have a quick question in regards to mounting the 1st stage of an Atomic T2. The shape is a turret design, and I was wondering how people prefer to mount it on the tank....with the turret pointing up (LP ports on top & HP ports on the bottom) or with the turret pointing down (HP ports on top & LP ports on the bottom).
Thanks

On my Z2 I have the turrent pointing down with LP ports on bottom allowing better hose routing in my opinion...to think about it I don't think I've ever seen an Atomic 1st stage with the turret pointing up.

Cheers.

Neither have I. I dive with a lot of guys that use Atomic and I've never seen any of them with turret up.

With any regulator with this design it should be pointing downwards (either straight down or sightly off to the side). Whenever I see one pointing up I politely note that it is on upside down.

Aren't you the helpful one!:D

Maybe you can explain what makes it "upside down" and why it "should" be pointing downward.

Because when it is upside down it sticks out more and is more likely to get knocked by either rocks, wrecks or your head. It also means the 5th port (if it has one) point directly up which just makes you look like a :dork2:

The bottom line is that it is actually a matter of preference, but personally I will always recommend (if asked, but a few times I have volunteered my opinion  ) to pointing the body down.

If you point the regulator body up, it will stick up past the highest part of the tank valve. Therefore, in order to avoid hitting your head with the regulator, you have to lower the tank, which makes it more difficult to reach the valve.

Some people also mind the lower tank hitting their bottom.

To me it is not a big issue either way. Heck, I dive with a double hose regulator that does stick above the valve and I wear my tank particularly low…but if you have a choice why not keep the regulator with the lowest possible profile. It is only a couple of inches taller, but sometimes that could make a difference.

Oh…I am referring about Scubapro Mk-5…I don’t own any of this newer successors…but they are the same.

I agree it's a matter of preference. There is no "upside down" or "correct" way to mount it. For some wings, mounting it pointing down can put the turret so close to the wing that the hoses are pushed around when the wing is inflated. DSS wings that have the inflator right in the middle seem to be particularly prone to this issue. Personally, on my plate/wing, I mount it pointing down but turn the tank around so the reg is on the other side of the valve. A few good samaritans have pointed out that I'm flirting with death by doing so.

If I'm not mistaken, the top port pointing up makes a convenient drysuit inflator hose port. I don't dive with a drysuit, so maybe someone can chime in on that one.

Not trying to give anyone a hard time here, I just don't think there's a "right" and "wrong" way to point the turret.

Pointing your tank backwards…pervert…it takes all kinds…lol… :rofl3:
Next you will turn your tank with the valve at the bottom…actually I could be the one trying that if I didn’t dive with a double hose.

Wow…“flirting with death” …do you get an adrenaline rush every time you do that? :D

Yes…contrary to what some clans would like to think, there are many ways to set up any of this rigs…and they all have pros and cons.

I think that most drysuit users (including myself) bring the hose under one arm…often under the right arm.

My tech guy said that if you look at it, there is a "protective" cap that should be facing up. He said that would give you some sort of protection if it gets banged on or something.

With this cap facing up, the turret is in the down posiition.
