Just ask Calvin where they put us. We won't know what dock we're getting until we sign in.

Oh guys! I'm so jealous! I can't wait to be diving with all of you. I'm fixing to move down there in 11 more months.
We'll have to plan some big parties for next summer.

We're waiting for you Natasha,

Come on down.

Nice diving today at Athens. Vis was almost 20'. Located the huge jet they have sunk, house boat, cabin cruiser, school bus and various and sundry smaller objects.

Dove with Texass (Des) and Tabatha. Got good tips on buoyancy and navigation, hope to have it down by the time I get to Coz.

We were looking for you Mike, what happened?

The water was 88 degrees and we only ran into a couple of minor OW silt clouds. Calvin told me he had 188 students plus about 50 free divers, but we only met up with a few of them underwater. We stayed away from the platforms on our tours which helped.

They've added some more docks to help ease the congestion. Calvin put us on one right next to the sand bar by the volleyball net. It didn't have a platform and the water is only about 4' deep for the first 15 feet so our entry was a little bit weird. The plus was that it's about a 30 second swim to 'The Plane'.

The next outing needs to be something cool since Jim will be hitting double digits on his dive log. I think he's just about got his weights figured out. He said he actually felt like he was gliding by the 2nd dive and finished up a 47 minute dive with plenty of air.

Wow! The water was 88 degrees! Fantastic. Sounds like a blast.
How far is this park from Pearland, Texas? About a 3 hour drive?
:sunny:

Pearland to Athens will be about 4.5 hours. You can take 288 to Beltway 8 to I-45 N and boogie!

You're just off the Gulf according to my Mapquest search. There are 3-day live-aboards just down the street from you! They run about $500 all inclusive, just bring your gear. They supply the food & drink. There are also 1 day 3-tank Oil Rig trips out of Aransas Pass just outside of Corpus Christi. They run about $150, or you can charter the entire boat for $1150 - 12 people per boat. I haven't done them yet, but everyone I've talked to says the diving is excellant! Lots of large critters including manta rays & whalesharks. Now I'm jealous!!!

Now that you mention it Des. You're absolutely right. The big dive #10 needs to be a good one. Hmmmmm.

Again, you're right on. Much better for us to come to you Natasha, you're about to be really close to the best dive opportunities in Texas.

Sounds like Dee is right there as well. I know Mitch lives in the Houston area, there's Texas Mike, Corsair and Lynette, Tom Vyles and better half, shoot let's do it.

This is going to be great! But one little problem, I don't live there yet.
I still have 11 more months up here, and then I can start my new 'cowgirl in the sand' life!
Dee, Are you in Friendswood, Alvin, or Clear Lake? I like all three but the new highschool in Pearland sold us.
My 13 year old, also a certified diver, liked it a lot so we're waiting for him to start school there next fall.
The oil rigs sound like the perfect gig. We'll definatly meet and party there, and get some dives in. But it will have to be next summer. If you guys go before that I'm ready to hear the dive report!

I live in Highlands, which is about 30 min. from Pearland, but we have friends there. In fact, those also chose Pearland because of the school system.

I like the idea of a Gulf trip to celebrate. The best time is August and Sept. The seas are flatter, currents lighter, and the big critters more frequent. Last August, I went out on one of the Rinn boats to the Flower Gardens. The seas were flat as a pancake...a rarity in the Gulf....and we saw 2 whale sharks one day. The timing will be just about right for your move!
