I don't think it was a marketing or PR stunt. I have met JJ and I don't see him doing that. He's a pretty down to earth guy, how many other president's of companies have you ever seen helping pick up trash from the beach?

You have seen it when GI3 posted on a public cave diving forum a while back. It was crazy how folks went after him in their posts.
 
I agree Jason. I think that if people want to discuss the product with him they should do it in writing or through PM's. Companies in general need/want to know if there are bad things happening with their products but doing it in a public forum and without tact is just not right. Like I said before I don't know this gentleman or even who he was associated with so I can make any comments on either. I do believe that there is a certain level of disrespect board wide, and I have been know to disrespect people from time to time, we all have, but it is time to get back to what this board is all about, Diving and enjoying the sport.
 
When dealing with anyone high up in a company, you just can't speak to them like a lower level employee. I deal with VP's and CEO's occasionally and I treat them differently then employees at my level. Depending on their personality, I will continue to treat them differently, out of respect for their position.

When I see JJ on here, I am very happy. We all know that DIR, Halcyon, GUE, etc is talked about all the time. I think it is valuable to have someone with direct knowledge and control to chime in and participate.

If I was unhappy with my Halcyon products, I would most certainly let him know, probably in a PM though. For one, it is more personable and less likely to receive a defensive response.

For those who have chosen to vent their frustrations in the public area, I am sure they have had some pretty bad experiences to warrant that. They should be grateful for the opportunity to do so.

My thing is just the maturity level should be stepped up and some respect should be shown. He can easily leave, just as he came. We should try and keep him around and pick his brain. Afterall, he IS one of the major players in the whole DIR concept.

Arent you about two faced. You are one of the biggest clowns on this board but you have the gall to talk about members being more mature.

As with my job i also deal with a lot of the so called "higher ups" I show them their respect in the public eye but i will not kiss there butt in private or public. They are a normal person just like you and me. Just because they hold a prestige position in a company doesnt mean they are god. In my job i am obligated to protect the lowly average citizen just as i would a ceo for some company.

This is a scubaboard. Members share their good and bad experiences with companies and products. For many of us that means a lot as it gives me some direction on what to avoid and what to buy without having to rely on rodales. For me it was the first time i actually got to plan to dive for a week straight and had to do it in a rented poodle jacket instead of my bp/wing or my knighthawk that i ebayed to buy the halcyon product. Trying to get my wing replaced was a nightmare but was promptly fixed by one person who understood my grief. As i said the rest of my halcyon gear has been great and enjoy it.

Actually he has been well behaved for a couple of weeks now. Maybe he is serious about his signature line. :)

I can honestly say that I am very ashamed of some members of this board. Recently, we had a VERY HIGH profile member of the INTERNATIONAL dive community join our board and certain reactions from members left me at awe.

I'm sorry you think I am two faced. I have made a genuine effort to clean up my behavior on this board, if you have failed to notice then there is nothing I can do about that. Actually it has been more than a couple weeks, but nobody is counting..WENDY!!! :)

Yes, they are normal people, but MOST of them have done something you and I haven't and thus hold a higher position. They are normal people outside of work, but at work they hold rank and should be treated that way. That is how the world works, and the fact that you show them their 'respect' in the public eye tells me that you know the game well.

I give credit when credit is due to anyone!

When you reference a 'poodle jacket' I see a blatant attitude and lack of respect for people who don't wear a wing setup. Also, it really wasn't Halcyon's fault you got stuck with the so-called poodle jacket, it was your fault for selling your original setup before the goods arrived.
