I've been vacationing in Aruba for 13 consecutive years now (except I misted 2001). Every year I brought little more than shorts and bathing suits. This year I am certified and have my own gear. Anything I should know about local restrictions and airport restrictions? I ask this because I am also going to Cozumel and the good folks there mentioned how one guy lost a few wrenches on his way back because you cant fly with them in your carry on when leaving Coz. Also in Cozumel-no dive knives, no gloves (although I doubt I'd be bringing a knife).
Thanks in advance for your help

There are no restrictions for Aruba, just follow the airlines and airport rules, like no liquids and such. To be sure put everything in your checked bags. The only thing not allowed in Aruba is spearguns.

Congrats and Welcome to diving you will love the sport. In aruba have Jads take you to Rocky Beach for a shore dive. Being new it is a most pleasant dive and they will have time to check you out to know your skill level.

Back to your question. I pack my reg set in carryon and wear my computer. All else goes in a suitcase (not dive bag) and gets checked. I do not use a dive bag as it is less likely to get ripped off. I usually leave my gear at the dive op through the week or two. Flying from a dive destination my carryon never gets a second look. In Fort Wayne they ALWAYS double screen because of the reg set.
