Another vote for Zeagle. I bought two Flathead VI's for $281 each using the 30 percent discount. I also have a DS-V,Envoy Deluxe, and Rezort. My experience has been great customer service and quality products.

As mentioned before almost all of the name brand regulators will perform well. What set's Zeagle apart from the rest for me is the great service.

How does Flathead VI compare to Flathead 7? I understand the latter is the last year's model, is that correct? Also, how is long term part availability with Zeagle regulators? If I purchase one through the internet dealer, will my local LDS (Zeagle distributor) still honor lifetime parts warranty? Thanks.

FH7 has 5 LP ports, is lighter (one side has a cut) but the technician at my shop said the internals are the same. I believe they will not honor your warranty. Unless they have changed the rules. I was told at my LDS that once they have serviced a zeagle reg and sent a claim for the parts. But Zeagle has responded that it will only be covered if the reg was purchased at the same shop.

Thanks for the information, I will call my LDS to confirm that...hopefully they can match the closeout price on the Flathead 6 (if they even have any in stock). I would hate having to ship the regulator someplace every time I need to have it serviced. Thanks.

How does Flathead 6 compare to Flathead XP and ZX 50-D - all 3 are priced about the same, are any significant differences between the 3? I prefer to get a sealed 1st stage just in case I decide to do cold/dirty water later on. Thanks.

I do not know about the 50D but I think XP does not have the seal on the 1st stage. If I'm not mistaken FH6 breathes at depth better than 50D but I might be wrong.

Andre,

I looked around at the current models on Zeagle Systems, BCs, Regulators, and Scuba Accessories. Personally, I would get the flathead LT. It is the lightest one (for travel), it is balanced, it has more ports than you will ever logically need, and it is a diaphragm regulator. It is not environmentally sealed, but diaphragm regs do not have an ambient pressure port (meaning that no dirt can get in them). It could freeze, but that is only in sub 40 degree water. You are going to need a drysuit to dive in that water anyway. I think based upon my experience as a tech, if I could only buy one Zeagle reg, it would be the flathead LT. A 2.5 lb reg is an easy one with which to travel! Plus, it has a venturi and adjustable cracking pressure, both of which are nice.

Let me know if anything that I said sounded like Chinese.

The XP is not sealed and breathes slightly better on the machine (I doubt anyone could tell underwater). The 50D has a swivel turret for the LP hoses, while the FH 6 & XP do not. There have been a few posts lately about issues with the swivel, so do some homework. When I first started looking at Zeagle regs, the LDS told me that the ZX DS-V was more than enough reg for my needs and would save me $$$. When I told him that I didn't care how much it cost since it was being paid for as part of an insurance settlement, he said "Have you seen the new Flathead 7?"

I went with the Flathead 7. If I had paid out of my own pocket, I probably would have listened to my LDS and gone with the DS-V (if he suggested it over the FH 6 rather than trying to make a buck up front, I'd trust him). Overall, the entire Zeagle line is rock-solid. Whichever one you go with, you'll be happy.

Just spoke to one of my local shops that is listed as a Zeagle distributor. They are telling me they are not stocking Zeagle anymore and can't participate in the 30% promotion but they will service Zeagle (with free parts) as long as I can prove I got it from a authorized dealer...they recommend Aqualung (they also have a promo going through the end of this month) although they do admit that older Zeagles (FH6?) are basically repackaged Apeks XTXs, which are step above Aqualung Legend, Micron or Titan which I am also considering...Is Flathead 6 the only Apeks clone? It seems that FH6 can be had around $360 whether or not it comes with lifetime parts warranty (I think different sites show different parts policies). Thanks.

After comparing all current Zeagle models (Zeagle Regulators Specifications and Features Comparison Chart) I guess I am really selecting between a slightly more expensive swivel model ZX-50D and non swivel ZX-DSV. Except for the turret the two appear to be identical (4vs5 LP ports) and within the same price range. LT and FH7 are basically in the next price category, weight-wise the difference is just around 1lb, so it does not sound like a big deal. Should I also consider the close out Flathead 6 model?

Close outs are a great way to save some loot. I know there were Aqualung titans (which is a sacred and very respectable reg) floating around for a while online for a song. If you can get a Zeagle on closeout with the discount, that would be sweet.
