I have bought super cheap 1st stages and found metal chips from machining inside them. I have bought cheap bottom-of-the-barrel reg hoses and had them fail catastrophically within weeks, or degrade quickly while quality rubber hoses last years. As far as I know, things still haven't "changed" for the uyghurs and dissidents disappeared to labor in the factories of that country of origin.
In other words, you don't actually know anything about this particular brand.

To be clear, I don't either. Which is why I said "If it tests OK on the surface, it should work fine. Even if it fails completely, you'll only be 6m deep."

It's also why I begrudgingly acknowledged in my original post that "they are regulators". I never said they won't be just barely good enough to suck air out of. I said they're crap quality and won't do it very reliably or for very long.
 
Lmao didnt realize brand name kinda sounded like “diedeep”. Prolly just gonna stick to my mk25, could just replace the cover if it gets scratches on it. Price for this brand is kinda sketchy.

You just go underwater and breathe them, just like any other regs

for a sec there I thought you modded the USD to be the BO reg — very cool mod btw, do you have any „documentation“ for that conversion process?

OP already has a v12, it’s not like it uses more gas when they take their mk25 set out for a dive 😅

Noone is doubting if it would function; just the longevity and toughness (which is the criteria OP is asking about)— I doubt you let your modded BOV/DSV go dangling in the sand

@ OP, a bit out of scope but I think it’s what really matters (and please don’t take this as any negative judgment at you; I just think it doesn’t hurt to say explicitly):
I hope that you aren’t planning to be the kind of DM that lets their reg/octo/spg dangle in the sand/hit rocks/corals; or perform you your skill circuit kneeling on the bottom; or not care for (whichever) reg you use after the dive
These are core(ish) „skills“ that divers in general should maintain and try to adhere to; and as a future DM (a dive professional) you should role model to people you’ll lead on dives

naa each time i demonstrate retrieving the 2nd stage reg the surface of the s600 kisses the ocean floor. We also just leave the bcd/regs/tanks on hard stony surface on land in between dives. The damage adds up.

Yes that’s bound to happen
@Nemrod has been spraying his regs with 2k to protect the surface finish — and he mentioned that it also protects against scratches

I plan to do that (at some point) as well
I would shoot that thing with the SprayMax 2K clear in a heart beat. I would shoot gloss, not the matte. But that is a preference. Pull the purge button out.

The Scubapro hand painted covers I have held, none were sticky. But the paint is not very durable. However, once over coated with a 2K clear the durability is much improved. Dragging regulators across the deck on an unsecured long hose will bugger up anything and especially if other divers are walking on it and dropping tanks on it as drug across the deck.

For my metal 2nd stages where 2k wouldn’t help, while leaving kit on stoney land I use one of these SP neoprene covers (but I only do that because it’s a rare BA156; otherwise I just stow my regs safely either in the tank straps or in a „pocket“)

The 2K clear coatings are tough and flexible but there is no cure for abuse, as described by the OP it would not last any longer than the factory and the cost to spray and dip is more than they are worth. Some of these equipments should be thought of as disposable, use, abuse, toss. And some types of diving and in particular dive training are just by their nature abusive of equipment. I would not bother with coatings or any such as that. Some old USD/AL 1085s were built for this. They are ugly chrome hubcaps new out of the box and the patina of bangs and scrapes and dents only adds to their irrefutable character. Nothing says been there and done that or at least tried :) like an abused set of 1085s.

There are printable bump covers for the G250, just saying ;).
 
I wholeheartedly agree, I don’t mind a scuff here or there on my regs from some good old fun
But I actually was suggesting the extra scratch protection for OPs s600/r195, not for structural protection for the seemingly disposal beaters

Only special regs get the „tip toe“ treatment like the g250 hot covers nd the BA156
