Hmmm... I started in my teens and still going strong 46 years later. In fact, doing far more dives than I did in my twenties.

I think I am glad that I didn't learn earlier. Things fell together perfectly for me when I did get certified, to end up with the right mentor and in the right eventual company. If I'd started as a younger woman, my lack of talent for the sport might have driven me right out of it. I also didn't have the money to acquire gear or travel then, as I do now. All in all, as with so many other things in my life, it came to me when the time was right.

Since im still in my 20s, although at the very end.. Im glad I did learn to dive in my 20s :p
However, as long as Id learned to dive (and doing it as safe as possible) I dont think id care much how old I was I think..

I am. I might not have been a prudent, safe diver back then. I would have dove like a :dork2:

I started in my teens, I'm sure, by today's standards, I was not a safe diver. No regrets.

I learned and was certified at 17.....then took a very long surface interval.....for 30 years. I'm sorry I missed so much time underwater.

Started when I was 55. If I had started earlier I probably would not have taken as many non-dive trips and seen all the great stuff out there that isn't about diving. These days, it's a bit hard to plan a trip that doesn't include diving. I guess I'll get over it someday.
But on the flip side, I would probably have been diving in the Coral Sea by now.
It seems like a 'sport' that is well suited for 'mature' folks.

Nah. I started in my late teens and was/am safe diver now. To me how 'safe' a diver is more a factor of one's personality. & having learned to dive pre-computer, I definitely understand the tables better than many (most?) people starting out with computers now.

I'd have loved to have learned in my 20s. Swimming was a major sport with me and I held the British Royal Life Saving Societies gold certificate by the time I was 19. If I'd learned to dive then it would probably have become my profession in some form or other.

I learned when I was a kid, I was in full swing in my teens and twenties. I'm so glad that I got to dive back when diving was dangerous and sex was safe.
