I use a standard nitek single gas computer. it can be set for any mix from 21%-50%. it records any info you might want and is downloadable to your PC with the interface.if your looking for a multi gas comp them look at the dive rite nitek-He. its programable with up to 7 gases and any mix from 8%-99% and can be switched underwater. it can also be used as a gauge only and is also PC downloadable. I've dove with several guys up here in NY who swear by the nitek-He for all diving including trimix.
its pricey but you'll never have to "upgrade" it for more advanced diving.

If you can't find the NITEK, then look for the OMS EANX computer. same computer, different color. LP has the OMS for 199.99.

What do you all think of the UWATEC Aladen Air? Let me know honestly please. Thanks.

My instructor and friend of mine from NY (you NY divers know Bob) got bent on a UWATEC nitrox computer. Not because he was "pushing the tables" but because UWATEC had a defect in the software. They were advised of this by their own engineers but chose to ignor it because it only was a problem in very specific circumstances. After 15 people were bent directly because of this software problem, then UWATEC issued a recall on their computers. how ever these poor divers are now suffering on a daily basis with neurological damage and are in the middle of a multi million dollar law suit.

Any company that ignors a problem and places a dollar figure on acceptable lawsuits vs. recall will never get a penny from me.

for more info on this lawsuit go here

for this I would never buy a UWATEC computer, and lately I've seen less and less of them out on the boats.
I'll stick with my NITEK.:fury:

Well for the record the only 2 computers recalled by Uwatec are the SmartCom and Smart Pro Computers which are their new line of computers, also for the record many divers including my instructor and 2 dive buddies have been using the Smartcom since they first came out doing deep deco dives without any problem. They have since sent in their computers for the upgrade because of the recall but considering the many thousands of SmartComs sold worldwide the percentage of people who have gotten bent is very small. I definately don't agree on Uwatec's slow response to admit to and fix the problem which was a bad executive decision more than a engineering decision which I'm sure $$$ had something to do with.
The Pro Ultra is a Nitrox computer that has been around for a few years and is well proven to be reliable for recreational and deco diving and is quite trusted worldwide.
The Aladin Air is the same computer without the nitrox capabilities.

freedive once bubbled...

Thats not true, they did issue a recall of the original Air X Nitrox from the early 90's. There are plenty of post on here about that and you can even get the info from their own website.

I have a Uwatec Smart Pro that was recalled. I dove for the first time last weekend with a lonaer and I miss the thing its a nice computer, but thats all I will say since it hardly falls in the $200-300 price range.

I dove a alladin pro for many years before I went on to nitrox, it just burns my a$$ that a company was willing to gamble with peoples lives KNOWING there was a problem but didn't want to spend the money or risk any bad press over a recall. As far as I'm concerned what they did was criminal, and the bast%^ds shoud be locked up. This wasn't a case of MAYBE there's a problem... it was a case of two employees coming to the big bosses and telling them there is a glitch that can cause people to get bent; and then those two guys got fired when they threatened to blow the whistle on the cover up...

a company like that should have faced criminal charges for the seven year cover up that caused an unknown number of people to get bent.

I'm sorry, no where am I willing to fund a company that rolls the dice on peoples lives for seven years and only admits they screwed up when they're caught red handed...
And for the ridiculous price of a smart pro, I'd rather have the NITEK He anyway...

Dive Rite makes the nitek line, go their web site for a full description of each (they make about 5 different models). if your looking for the basic NITEK (which is a one gas programable from 21%-50%) and have trouble finding it, then look for the OMS "EANX" computer, its the same thing in a different color with different stickers on it.

divers discount has both the OMS and the NITEK. They list the OMS for $299, and no price is listed for the nitek (DIVE RITE POLICY) but it is probably around the same exact price.
shop around, I got mine new for $210.
