I'm a Fish!
Hi:
I would like to be able to talk to, and ask questions to, anyone that is a civil, mechanical, electrical, computer, Bio, or marine engineer. Thank you.

I'm in my last year of getting my degree in Biomedical/Electrical Systems Engineering, if that helps

How can I be of service? Tele/data-com engineer, without going into too much detail. One of the many things one can do with a computer science or electrical engineering degree. :)

What in the world does that mean...that you can place some electronic device in someone's body....who in the world would have that....

But anyway, yes, I'm a Mech. Egr., but I am stuck in a world with computers :puter: and code...a long way from my specialty of structrues and vibration...oh well

What services can I offer that aren't related to sending me to jail in the near future....

BSME, Class of 83. Ask away. Are you thinking of a career change?

Holy crap! That was almost 20 years ago.

I'm a systems engineer. I design/build/maintain computer networks.

LOL .... aren't we all? My major was computer aided stress analysis in design, now relegated to primarily HVAC stuff ..... it's still a lot of fun though.

This is a great board, don't you think? I just asked this less then 5 minutes ago, and all you guys came to my rescue. Thank you so much.
This question is to help my son, a freshman in college. He is taking General Engineering along with his required classes in hopes of becoming an engineer.
We want to get him into a company this summer to do an intership. Have any of you done this? Did you get paid for shadowing or was it just for the experience?
Any other info you have will be passed onto Jordan.
Once again, thank you so much for your time.

The school i went to most freshman actually do start in general engineering (they called it eng. undecided.) It's a great way to get a feel for what discipline or direction you might want to go. Good decision IMO.

Don't let him get caught up in worry'g about picking a discipline right away. He really shouldn't need to worry about it until near the end of his second year or later.

An internship (co-op) is also a great idea. Most people i know who did that, did get paid. Most of them worked for bigger companies like GM, General Dynamics or Raytheon and pay for internship was SOP. Best not to wait to long in looking into possiblities though, those jobs tend to go fast.
