OK Im new to the scuba world and looking for info. When I did my ow cert dives I used a vest style BC. My instructor had the back inflate (patriot) after I was certified she let me try hers out for the rest of the day, I liked it a lot better then the vest I think a zeagle or ranger anyways does anyone have any input about this pastricular brand or model pros cons regarding it? I am normally going to be in fresh water hopefully 3-4 salt water trips per year and am looking for something pretty basic to get going!
Thanks for the input what an awesome board this is to come to for info! Just think one day I too may be a pro advising newbies like myself!

I use the aqualung patriot and love it. The zeagle Ranger is also a very good b.c.[buddy dives with one] the Aqualung Patriot is on sale right now @ leisurepro.

good luck and dive safe

You might want to check out www.divernet.com and their review of the Seaquest Raider, which is the same BC as the Patriot (other than a few extra d-rings and dump valves).

I own a Ranger and like it but unless you just want the extra heavy construction or need the lift (45lbs) you will most likely be better off with the Zeagle Escape. It has most all the same features of the Ranger but it's a lot lighter and less lift. Remember, if you are going to tavel by air, weight and size are important and a Ranger will take up a lot of suitcase. It weights 8 lbs dry. I still use my Ranger if I am traveling by car but for air travel or warm water diving I have switched to a Scout, it's a lot lighter (<4lbs) and folds up very small. It's "intergrated weight system" is a little too simple for most people so I don't recommend it as a sole BC unless you don't mind a weight belt. The Escape will also cost less than the Ranger.

Whatever BC you choose, I would suggest that you avoid anything with loads of D-ring and a large amount of lift. No one uses that many D-rings and unless you just need the lift, the large bladder causes drag and takes up room in your suitcase.
