This is wrong on so many levels......
I mean I would agree but it’s not really common to have a din first stage only screw in the first few threads on a tank so I didn’t check it first… then trying to problem solve at the dive site three hours drive from the dive shop.
 
Yes, regulators (and valves) for Nitrox service (not sure if >40% only or including <40%) are different thread.
I bought adapters for M26 valves to make sure I can use my regulators on rented O2 tanks. However none of the dive centers I dove with in Europe had any tanks requiring those valves. It looks like nobody actually implemented this rule and even when CCR O2 tanks get sold with the M26 thread they are usually replaced with standard DIN valves.

Good example of a bad regulation that has been bypassed by users.

I think France and perhaps Germany follow the standard, but not the others. Silly thing IMHO.
