I think this thread is hanging on an older premise about Atomics shying away from mixed air. They've got this covered now folks. Atomics rocks!

Have (2) TX100's with TX50's octos, just getting into tech diving and glad I bought them when just started. Nice regs!

Remember that the Atomics M1 is made of Moniel and is approved for o2 content upto 80%. If you ahve planning to use it for deco, then there is no choice....the Apeks is only rated for 40%....(trying to avoid the whole cleaning issue).

Unless your are planning to go to 330 fsw, I don't think that the easier/harder breathing issue applies....and is subjective at any point.

Bottom line is that both regs are solid. I have rebuilt both Atomics and Apeks ( I own an ATX200, TX50 and an Atomic T1x). I think the Apeks are easier but the Atomics aren't tough either (very similar to the Mk20).

As for recalls. Yes Atomics had a recall because of the spring...and Apeks had a recall on the ATX200 because of a problem with the front cover on the 2nd stage (which could fall off during a dive)....both could potentially ruin your day.
