Rickster:Hi super opus,
Sand Eaters has a dive on Sunday at Shaws Cove, Laguna. There are a couple of us signed up to go. As usual, we will go look at conditions and decide if we dive. If not, we usualy find an alternate spot.
You are very welcome to join us!
So Dr Bill do you think the dive park will have decent vis by the weekend,I am hoping to make it over on Fri.I'm waiting to get a more accurate surf forecast to see how bad we will get beat up on the crossing.drbill:Nothing, nada, zilch. There were a few divers at the Casino Point dive park, but not many braved the cold weather. I know I didn't. After planning a three day weekend of diving, I did not get in the water once. With the rainstorm, the waters will probably be a bit murky for a few days so I don't expect to dive again until Friday.
Wonder if the big waves forecast hit the mainland? Our boats to Catalina were cancelled at least til about 4:00 PM. Don't know if any ran after that.
Lexy:I can provide these details about the Casino Pt. Dive Park -
Dove it on 12/31 in the AM. Was all excited because there were a grand total of 6 divers. Burrr and burr because there was no sunshine during the surface interval and it was windy. We hit the water and immediately encountered a ripping current. We poked around the Scuba Luv Buoy to the steel pier (going into the current) and decided enough was enough. The vis was 30' with particulate. The conditions were so bad, we were done after just one dive.
All boats were cancelled on Monday, 1/2/06 starting at 10 AM. Only one AM boat got to Catalina and many passengers were seasick. We got stuck on the island an extra day and were able to get back this morning on the 8 AM boat... conditions were just too yucky for safe crossing. I can't complain... as we had a blast regardless of being marooned on Catalina.
