...apparently OMS has phased out the LP Faber tanks, replacing their entire line-up with what appear to be, based on their specs, the PST tanks.........and while most of their tanks are 3442 psi rated, they point out their " C 120 " tank is a LOW PRESSURE ( 2400 psi ) tank, even though all the specs are identical to a PST HP E7-120 ???

Can anyone clarify/explain what is going on with that particular tank........does that mean that a C120 @ 3442 psi equals a 172 cu. ft. tank ???

Thanks ,

Karl

From previous posts no person outside of OMS has seen these. There was a thread a few weeks, maybe months back about these new tanks.

The specs on the Faber LP 120 might look the same as a PST HP, enough people have commented about them NOT being the same. I think a good analogy would be if GM and Ford both made 200 horse power V-6's, are they identical?? Nope, there are differences in them.

Browse back a few pages of threads and enjoy the reading.

Hi MikeC,
........I believe you're referencing the old story about OMS producing a galvanized version of their longtime Faber LOW PRESSURE ( 2400/2640 psi) tanks......that was discredited as vaporware a longtime ago.....this is new information, OMS is liquidating their leftover Faber LP tanks (per my LDS) and converted over to PST galvanized tanks.
.....please compare the specifications of the PST E7-120 to those of the 'new' OMS C120, they are IDENTICAL in every way, EXCEPT that the PST E7-120 is rated @ 3442 psi, the OMS C120 is rated @ 2400 psi........OMS is definitely --NOT-- making a reference to the 'old' Faber LP 120, and, in addition, OMS has -- NOT-- made a typo, as if you examine the top right corner of the new OMS tank spec sheet you will see the footnote:

" * C45 & C120 are LP cylinders "

........clearly OMS has taken pains to emphasize the C120 as a LP tank....however, the spec are identical to the HP E7-120.......this does --NOT-- compute!!!

karl, on 3-28-05 a member started at thread about these NEW OMS tanks. If you read that thread they haven't been seen. I think that thread also had a link to OMS's site, same page as you provided.

As for the LP 120's, since I have not bothered to look at one in many years I really haven't kept up to date on their specs. I decided that my back was worth more than extra bottom time. If you choose to overfill them, good luck. Let us know if your LDS will fill a tank rated at 2400 (2640+) to 3442.

Hi MikeC,

...I'm familiar with the Faber LP 120's.....I own 2 of them, and have both of them for sale at my LDS since Nov '04......good tanks, just too long for me to comfortably dive......and while they are heavy at about 55 lbs full, they're still 30 lbs lighter than my LP 85 twinset wheh it's full....it was mainly a length issue that motivated me to sell them....and to a lesser extent, the weight/bulk.

......I'm going to ask my LDS to call OMS about the C120 to clear up the confusion.......my LDS teaches cave classes and is willing to do some 'overfilling' on LP tanks...so we'll see.

LP120's are 120 cu ft at the 2650 "plus" rated pressure. At 3442 they should be 149 cu ft of gas (an LP120 should == the mythical E8-149 in water volume). If you work out the math it comes out to slightly more than 149, but that's treating air as an ideal gas and at those pressures it isn't.

The 3442 and 2400+ rated cylinders will have the same specs. The cylinders are made from the same drawing dies. The REAL difference is 3442 cylinders are made from a high stength steel to accomplish the pressure increase.
