The sea temps there are crazy, the surface temp hits 40C in the summer - Taking a pee in your wetsuit actually cools you down (apparently) - then suddenly drops over the course of a few days. Apparently it's something to do with the cooler waters near the Iran side flipping with the warmer water on the UAE side of the gulf....

I lived out in Dubai before moving to the Philippines, Musandam is a great weekend dive trip, although Dubai has some great diving, unless of course you aren't fascinated rocks and sand with the occasional fish, then it's not so good

There was some mean currents up in Musandam though, the surface is pretty flat but then under the water....... Not sure on the seasons but there's also a lot of turtles up there too.

agree on the turtles. dove in fujairah about 120 or 150km from dubai. never seen so many turtles in one dive. also saw a pair of tunas feeding on sardines and an eagle ray in 20 feet of water.
