I too am an ex-Youper. Born and raised in Marquette (got OW certified in '68.)

You mentioned what you did and liked but what about Jen? Make sure that she has some interests in wherever you choose. My wife was into the arts, vocal and dance and almost died in the UP. Here in the Seattle area there's enough for her and still good diving for me :)

Houghton's MTU is well noted for its Engineering program. 260" of snow sounds like a lot (and I've seen Houghton in the winter and yes, there is a hell of a lot of snow) but remember that it packs down. The worst I've ever seen in Houghton is about 6-7 feet on the ground (not counting show banks).

Marquette is a larger town and has two industries, NMU and the state prison (not as bad as it sounds). The community is diverse enough (thanks to the school) that "outsiders" integrate quite easily. Some of the other town can lack that particular trate.

Hunting and fishing is great at either location. I left there some time ago but return at least yearly and now own property in Wisconsin where I thought I might retire. (Course my wife may have other plans! )

Up there at Ann Arbor, you ever come across a John Charpie at the U of M Hospital? Cousin of mine!

As for Marquette, they "only" get, on average, about 140 inches per year (course, compared to down here in Dayton . . . ., that's a lot!). I'll have to call my folks to see what they're running this year. So far!

name sounds familiar, what area does he work in? I'm involved in the transplant lab.
