Pagi Opalobsidian!

I have dive P. Weh way before the Tsunami, in 2001 and it was fabulous. Great viz, loads of fish life, Mantas in Gapang bay. Underwater was really topnotch. Accommodation and f&b on the other hand were really "back to basic" but nice.
As far as I heard they have been nicely rebuilding since the Tsunami and the underwater has been pretty untouched. I would go back there any time.
Beaches are great, it is quiet and the people are really friendly.
Best and fastest way to get there is to fly from Penang (Malaysia) to Banda Aceh.

I've been to both ... Pulau Wehx2 & Ambonx4 and can give you some info on both.
Both places have got both good macro and healthy reefs. Trip reports attached below. I'd say that I like Ambon, given the fact that I'm a macro photographer and love the muck dives at Laha, easier to find and photograph critters ;-) The reefs at the southern side are spectacular and more untouched - filled with fish life (not pelagics) and healthy coral growths. But July is the rainy season so you might not be able to visit these sites.

The cons about Ambon is that the diving is quite expensive compared to rest of Indo. Although I have stayed with Blue Rose Divers, which is cheaper than Maluku but I think the price is nearly twice of what I paid for a week diving in Bali/P.Weh.

No matter which of these 2 places you choose to go ... you'll never be disappointed!!

Happy bubbles,
