Has anyone tried anything like this? My wife always follows me when we dive so I never know how far away she is without turning around all of the time. This looks a little on the pricey side but might be handy to keep track of a trailing buddy. Has anyone tried a home made version?

I have used this as well as a cheaper version from DIRDirect

They work very well for when the team mates idea of positioning is…less than ideal.

If you are in the states you can get them from us. We are the US Distributor for AMX Teknology.

We have all 8 colors in stock.

Not the cheapest option but they are built well.

Another good use for these is when CCR diving to do a bubble check. Buddy of mine dives with one and recommends them.

I have both the 360 Observe Mirror and the AMX Teknology Hand Mirror.

The AMX is built very well and will last very long however it is not a convex mirror and does not give the wide angle view that would give better overall view of your own gear and the divers around you.

The 360 Observe Mirror is convex and makes things look a bit distant but gives a very good wide angle view of yourself and other divers beside and behind you very easily, however it will start to peel away after some dives especially if you handle many cylinders due to knocks and dents, .

If only, someone would make the 360 Observe Mirror bigger, but with the built quality (mineral glass) and protection of AMK.

I like the price on my GoPro Status Mirror from Mako.

No GoPro needed.
Note the following on the MAKO website:

For those diving in waters frequented by Barracuda, we recommend opting for the “Keep in your glove option”. Barracuda have been known to bite flashers and this looks much like a flasher. So, for safety reasons, opt for the “keep in your glove or sleeve option”.
