I know that Bob Sotto's boats in Grand Cayman are non-smoking. The only Liveaboard I've been on is Blackbeard's...they had a smoking only at the stern when we're underway rule.

Hope this helps a bit.

Oh and welcome Sue....glad to see you posting

Peace,
Cathie

I am from Puerto Rico and we have several non smoke scuba boats even catamarans sail boat for divers. Dive sites are very friendly from 30' up to cristal clear wall down to a reachable 330' with the right education. If you plan to come here just write to me again and good lock!

Sue Sue,
I know it seems like almost everyone took the opportunity to give you an answer for everything other than what you asked but, Dont get discouraged. Everybody here will help you if they can. Some just pick the wrong time to provide a witty response. Its nothing personal.

The best advice I can provide you is to inquire about the operators policy before booking and state WHY its important to you, asthma- smoke sensitivity-other concerns. Please be advised that its also difficult for others to give relevant info for your area, as your profile is really vague. Maybe just fill in the state that your from, it may bring some better responses.

Welcome to the board!! Sorry you got a rough start.

I am interested in gathering a directory of sorts to share with other Non-Smokers for Non Smoking and/or Tobacco free Dive and/or Vacation experiences. Any info or contacts will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Sue Sue

FYI: Cruising on Carnival's Paradise will still be smoke free until September. (At which time she is going to smoking. Presently she runs Western and Eastern Caribbean itineraries. Diving while cruising is not ideal due to the the strict schedule you are on, however, if you enjoy a Smoke Free vacation, and feel a little bit of diving is better than any day at work, this may be fun. My DH and I have cruised on her 6 times. And like the Western run for diving the best. Usually you get 4, two tank dives in one week. Not real spectacular, but, it is diving AND cruising. If anyone has questions, ie: dive ops available, or cruising questions , feel free to ask.

Dear ALL.... Thanks for the info and support. I don't mind a little bit if ribbing as long as it remains in good fun. (I know the smoking/non smoking topic can get heated....YIKES !!!) Anyway, as I just mentioned, I am trying to get leads for my family and I so that we may continue to travel and enjoy diving. Since Paradise is going by the wayside soon, I need to seek out other options. Although, I am sad about losing this opportunity, I am hopeful that I will find a new experience as well. I will follow up with Bob Soto, dive ops in Puerto Rico and California. Thanks again. Sue Sue. PS: I will work on updating my profile.

I smoke and I figured i would be the oddball as they say smoking "is a detrimental thing" to your health when I took the initial diving class.

Hopefully me smoking wont be so odd then.

I Also smoke and to be honest with you I have dove with ops in Florida and here in the Great lakes All of them were non smoking. Which is kind of Ironic because I'm a smoker and the deisel fumes choke me but oh well. I was on a boat in Florida one time that did let me smoke only because I had to cancel a dive because of ear problems and once everyone was in the water but the crew and myself they lit up so I asked if I could and they said sure but once everyone was back on board we had to go smoke free again. So SUE SUE I dont think you have to look to far to find smoke free ops to go diving on. Amyslates dive amore in Key largo is smoke free boat as well as there neighbors kelly dive aqua nut or something like that in key largo is smoke free and Recntec here in michigan is I assume anyway is smoke free the captain never said but out of respect I dont smoke on the boat. For us smokers I'm the last one on I smoke a deep hard one on the dock and wait until the captain says and were off and I hop on and dont smoke again until we get back.

I am really sad about the paridise going to smoking. We went on her and had a delightful time diving at almost every port, and NO SMOKING was the best!
I dive with Sergio Sandoval of Aquatic Sports down in CZM. If you ask they will take you on their older boat (old blue) if there are only a few of you, then alot of times you'll get the whole boat to yourselves. That way you don't have to worry about smoking at all. I don't know if they allow smoking on the newer boat. but I have never had any problems in the smaller boat.
1 Problem though, and it has been a problem with my wife, is the boat exhaust smoke is pretty bad. Especially when your getting out, as the exhaust is righ in your face at the rear swim step! We had the same thing down in Roatan this year on Miss Maggie of BIBR. Very smelly.

Howdy!

Hi all, thanks for the info; I am following up on the leads; And, BTW, the exhaust fumes get to me as well. I can't handle it because of my reactive airway, DH gets ill by association as he had a sea sickness which was compounded by boat exhaust fumes. For me, I have found that I am fine as long as I stay away from the triggers. Again, thanks , I have some great info. Bob Soto has already responded. Now I just need to locate non-smoking lodging. Sincerely, Sue
