Any real world benefit to the new Atomics Stainless Steel 1st ( St1)

Has anyone used this reg? If so thoughts??

...at $ 1000 a pop, your local dive shop will certainly benefit, at the very least.

Thanks for the insightful response. The local dive shop guys will NEVER become wealthy selling this nor any other reg. They make a living which they, as you and I, certainly deserve. So if I choose to spend my money on this... so be it.

P.S. - the reg retails for less than $1000... more like $800.

The question posed remains the same.

Have you used one yet? I recommend trying it to make sure you think its worth it....Its a great reg though! We are thinking about bringing in the line, but with the economy and going into our slow season, it will probably wait until I find a couple more people looking to buy some  I would have no hesitation to buy one if the price was right :D They are really great breathers!

It's $150 more than the B2 to get the 1st Stage all in Stainless. So corrosion resistance should be better. Other than that afaik, they're the same design. Both get the Ti 2nd stage.

I'm on my 2nd Atomic. Nice things about them are the 2nd stage swivel, the light 2nd stage weight and they breathe effortlessly at any depth I've ever been to. (122') The first stage swivel is nice as it helps keep the hose routing fuss to a minimum. And all have a 2-year service interval.

Apparently no one has used this reg yet. I am still awaiting a response.

Mike at Dive-Right-In Scuba - Good luck in this difficult business environment and season.

Best wishes,
Garv

BTW Mike,

Do you see any advantage to adding the titanium swivel versus the standard stainless steel?

Thanks for the encouraging words  We arent planning on going anywhere and are attracting more customers every day :D

As for the Titanium vs. stainless, I have a lack of knowledge for the benefits for both of those to be honest...but from what I know, I cant see a big difference except weight. Which could be a big difference if you have jaw fatigue or the SS swivel is heavy...other than that, I really dont see any differences, but look forward to hearing about them if there is :cool2:

For what it's worth, 316 stainless isn't going to corrode in salt water if you do a nominal rinsing job. It's considered "marine" grade.

Watch out for imitators that would use either unknown, 304, or 308 stainless, as that's not going to work nearly as well. It's still better than mild steel, but it's not nearly as nice as the 316.

According to the Atomics website, they're using 316.
