Anyone know if any bars hold a "poker night", or have indescreet backroom games, or are there any home poker games that aren't too hard to get invited to? I think there is a casino (of sorts) on the island, but I haven't heard very good things about it and don't know if they have a poker room.

I often travel solo, and there's not too much to do in Coz at night besides sit at a bar and drink, which often ends up boring as %*}!# after the first several beers. Sunday's especially are a little challenging to keep oneself entertained...

Thank the Lord the police never thought to ask this on an open forum. But in answer to your question yes we have an illegal poker game each and every night....just ask sargent stadanko of the FBI for directions.....

I'd take the ferry over to Playa for the afternoon and evening. There is a casino within walking distance of the ferry, but couldn't tell you anything about it. If the cards aren't running for you, there are a few places that will likely have some pretty good live music. Either way, I'd have a cheap hotel in my pocket just in case .....

lol. OK, OK, stupid question...I never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the chandelier!

But fwiw, back in good ol' USA, even in those states where gambling is illegal, it's generally NOT illegal for friends to get together and play cards/poker for money. It's only breaking the law when whomever is running the game profits from it by charging players to play or takes a % of money from each hand, i.e., "rakes the pot". (And yes, I realize rhe laws here in Mexico may be far different than back home.)

Still, if someone knew of gringo-friendly games they could always send me a PM...just sayin'.

My card experience is limited to strip poker amongst friends, but i can see no problem with seeking out a friendly game of “one garment per winning hand” amongst Total strangers in the most lawless country in this hemisphere. I’ll be sure to come home with lots of other people’s clothes, they won’t even miss that pile that I am carting off. Certainly I have no worry about waking up in a random back alley with no clothes and no memory of how i got there. And a tattoo i won’t even know is there until my husband asks about it.

There is a casino on Cozumel but I haven't been in it and don't know what they offer. We used some locals to sherpa tanks through the jungle there and would pick them up there everyday.

I'm bringing left, right center......fun game....$3 bucks a game per person....
