I went on a liveaboard boat this summer down the Inside Passage. The trip was set up to allow shoreside activities for non-diving spouses. The non-diving spouses would have been miserable if the trip had not been set up on that basis. As it was, time ashore seemed short compared to time diving. Unless the trip is set up to allow non-diving activities your spouse may be miserable. Have you considered a Club Med or similar resort that has a real active diving program?

Nautilus Explorer?

In addition to the already mentioned Cuan Law, Scuba Diving Bahamas Liveboard Aqua Cat might be worth a look, but in your case, I think your wife wouldn't enjoy it.

I think you'd be better off going on a liveaboard without her, then either let her do her own vacation or let her pick one that didn't include diving that you two could do together.

There is the initial excitement of going to sea, if you are not going for a purpose, diving, fishing, whale watching, then it gets old fast. Putting a non-diver on a dive boat is the equivalent of checking them into a Motel 6 with no access to a 7-11. You will be paying big bucks for an experience that won't be appreciated.

A liveaboard for a non-diver is a no-no. Do a land-based trip, but see if someone can persuade her to try diving. I've only failed a couple of times to convert adamant "non-divers".

Boy, I'm glad I posted this. Just checked out the Cuan Law site - that looks close to perfect! Gotta see what Annie thinks about it but it does have a lot of things she'd love. Sailboat, tri-hull stability, 3 dives a day, great food, bigger rooms, other excursions.

Plus then maybe someone other than me could get her in the water to give scuba a try!

Thanks!!

Maybe she needs to start with a little snorkeling, then try a shallow discover scuba dive in warm, clear water.

Oh, and by the way, I meant to note that you don't have to do all three dives every day. This will give you more time to spend with your wife and make sure she enjoys the trip! :D

- have her spend a week with friends shopping or at a spa while you go on the liveaboard (no kidding, we have met 2 different guys who did this as a trade off with their wives).

:Drobin

Trade off infers some kind of monetary parity, equality. My dive buddy and bride, aka Herself loves diving, but in one week, she could run up one heck of a $pa Bill.

Man, I could trade off against that with a trip to Australia for two weeks. And bring a buddy. That would be about even. I don't think she'd like my choice of buddy, either :gorgeous: but hey- a trade is a trade.

SCUBA is a life sport. See what you can do with the assistance of a well selected instructor to show her how easy it is. And remember- you don't have to swim... just sink.

I have "over the years" arranged for my wife to go Myrtle Beach for a week with her family and I can sneak away for that dive week. Sweet for everyone and I have a built in execuse not to do the beach thing with a bunch of kids.

So my point is that you need to find something for her during that time span.

I think the Cuan Law is a great idea.
What about Bonaire, she could see you shore dive and be right there sun bathing, you exit and bingo you're right there. Get up early take a dive (she's sleeping in), she takes a nap in the afternoon you're right at the edge of the ocean, take a dive. She wants to shop downtown you could stay within walking distance, she walks - you dive. You want a quick dive, she gets ready to go out to dinner and it takes her a hour or more to get her dressed and ready you could get a dive in.

Slip her a valium, she takes another nap and you get to dive even more.:crafty: She walks into town while you are diving, meets a local island stud, and you can dive till your hearts content!:11: No worries about her taking an hour to get dressed for dinner as she'll be having dinner and more with the stud!:D:rofl3::rofl3:

I think Bonaire is another good option in that it does offer more options to his wife. The Cuan Law still has an edge though in the amount of time he spends diving. Put on the gear and jump off the back porch and enjoy your dive. Then an hour later you get out and go spend time with your wife while someone rinses and stores your gear. In Bonaire, more time for diving will be required in setup, getting to different dive sites, gear take-down, return from dive site, rinsing and the of storing gear.

The Cuan Law has the edge here as well in that it severely limits the number of available studs. :D
