Friendly reminder to check the expiration date on your SC Fossiling Permit. I found the DNR on top of me, multiple times this past season. Also, if your planning any fossiling in Florida... Debra Powell sent over the Florida Fossiling Permit Form. Debra is an excellent guide for offshore Venice FL fossiling or Peace River shark tooth hunting.

Hold the bus..........

You are supposed to get a permit to fossil hunt in florida?? Pulling teeth/bones off the ocean bottom while scuba diving???

"Encouraging the study of the vertebrate fossils and vertebrate paleontological heritage of the state and providing exhibits and other educational materials on the vertebrate fauna to the universities and schools of the state."

Thanks Lee! I never would have thought about that.

Oh yeah, Damn nice teeth too.:D

No to that Tony. I have heard if they do check for a license they can fine you 50 if they choose to. The SC Hobby licensing agency told me they don't take your sharks teeth. The DNR has seen me fossiling and drove their boat right next to me and asked if i was finding any good ones. I told them, just small ones. That particular day they were looking for drunks and booze (in glass) on the river. There are no hard fast rules, but since the permits are only 5 bucks i just get them regardless. The dive boats recommend you get a license but they do not care if you have one or not.

The things the State of SC is very interested in, is early American Artifacts and Indian Artifacts. They DO want information on these items for historical reasons. They do not have a GREAT interest in sharks teeth is what i have been told

I looked at my SC fossiling permit and it is still valid. Thats good, because I have tentative plans to hunt sharks teeth in the Edisto this weekend. The weather lots good and the water level is perfect. I have my GPS numbers, wetsuit, scoop, screen-sifter, and I am ready to go. There is only two of us going, SO if anyone wants to go, let me know and we will do it

I hope when I start scuba fossiling again that I can return to this spot in the photo. We did not find a thing, BUT it had all the earmarks of being a spot where one would find some choice sharks teeth. It was and is a perfect spot for fossiling. Its shallow and easy. The bottom was gravel and I swore when i saw it that i was in shark tooth heaven. But alas, no teeth presented themselves. IF the teeth have been previously picked up then there will be LOTS underneath the sandy gravel

Thanks Randy. Those are just some small teeth I screen sifted out of the creeks. I like the "Hemi". It is one of my favorites. Not totally commited yet but I may hunt some this weekend. I am on hot-stand-by.

Shark tooth hunting in the beautiful backwoods of South Carolina

Oh yeah Joe. Thats a nice haul alright. The spear point is killer good in my opinion. There are a LOT of good teeth surrounding the point. Many times the smaller higher quality teeth are the ones I like best.

Where and when did you find these? Were you diving?

I keep looking at the spear point. That thing rocks. I have one, and only one. I found it diving in the Cooper on the up side of Pimlico just before Mepkin. I posted a photo and mentioned that I might sell it and I got three immediate hits like bolts of lightning

I am ready to go do some scooping and screen-sifting. Saturday looks like a good day weather wise. I have a tentative arrangement with a fossil head but he has not committed yet. You should go with us or turn us on to one of your spots.

I have a lead on a really good spot but I have yet to get her to give it up. I will keep working on it.

I have eleven spots picked out. I have hunted two of the eleven. The other nine I have not even surveyed yet. But out of the eleven I feel sure four will produce. Not sure how many or how big but they will produce something

Ran across an old photo of some offshore Venice Florida teeth. I love the bluish color of these teeth!

Damn! I am with Lee on pertaining to the spear point. What a great find indeed! I truly wish that I could join in this weekend but between work and family obligations I just can't make it. Happy hunting to the rest of you.

Lee, I will send you the only spot I know of in CHarleston that produces red/orange teeth. I have a red mako and a red angy fro mthis site. i can never seem to get back to this spot and you will need a boat.
