What is LIS and why has it made Ct diving uninteresting ?

It's kinda funny, even though we're a little state, we probably have the largest amount of uninteresting salt water diving coastline (thanks, LIS!) I haven't dove everything CT has to offer, but in short, CT has decent lake diving; if you live in the eastern-ish half, you have access to RI and Mass.; western, probably hop over to NY/NJ; central, hope you like driving if you want to hit decent ocean diving. What area are you at?

Try Orbit marine in Bridgeprt. Noel there runs charters on their boats..

The Long Island Sound is not for everyone. Some people don't like it, yet others prefer it. Its challenging at times and offers great opportunities for exploration and discovery. The visibility cannot be predicted and if you live here you it is a viable activity. Most quality sites must be accessed by boat but there are locations close to shore. Some offer great visibility if you pic a location with sand substrates or areas comprised mostly by stones. Here are three videos of sites with good viz for the LIS. Most people have a bad experience in the LIS and chalk it up to the norm. The key is to not give up. Scuba diving is a great activity and we have been working to promote it. If you would like to explore you can check out our interactive dive map and explore, and see for yourself.

Happy diving,
