That's a good idea about taking it to the aquarium, but in the meantime, MontereyCADiver, what's your opinion?

Thanks to everybody else who ventured a guess or an opinion. I want to take the bone to "Show and Tell" (I teach K) and at least say intelligently what it might be.

To be on the prudent side, don't show it to anyone publicly until you've have it positively identified. Marine mammal parts (including bones) fall under the MMPA, and you could get into trouble for possessing them.
