what really rubs me the wrong way is that it seems the gear manufactures aren't doing the LDS's any favors. i have been trying to get some of the new gear that has just come out and there are tons of places to find it online, but when I ask my LDS if he can order it the Manufacture tells them they are on back order. Why can the huge online shops get hold of the new stuff and the LDS's are left without a sale?

American diver in Lomita is now a tax prep place. bummer.

The same goes for the way the manufacturers deal with the unauthorized dealers. A LDS gets its ScubaPro supply yanked immediately if it discounts too much (like All Things Scuba), but the on line unauthorized sellers like LeisurePro seem to have an endless supply of Scuba Pro gear. They can't be picking it up just from shops that go under, it has to be coming from distributors (probably overseas). The manufacturer can't be working very hard at tracing back the supply and shutting it off.

I am pretty sure Liburdis is just a tenant in that center. It is possible the landlord wants to use the space for something else and did not give them much notice. My understanding is that's what happened to Reef Seekers.

Yeah, bummer about Liburdi's I just taught my first confined water class there last Sunday. I walked into the shop last night and they told me they were moving...I'm an independent instructor and the location was perfect for me (live 2 mins away) Now I have to find another pool to call home. Anyone have any ideas about another good sized local pool until the relocation is complete?

I hope Matthew reopens soon!

dive safe all

Jeff

The manufactures are selling to the online guys and just lying about it to cover it up. They can’t turn down the sales volume and they also need to do what they can to stay in business.

Maybe your LDS is not being completely truthful and when he says they are on back order he really means as soon as he has enough customers to make a quantity order he will place the order?

It makes it hard for consumers to support their LDS when they can buy a wesuit online for 100-150 dollars cheaper and pay no tax. Most of the online stores offer free shipping as well.
How can an LDS compete with that? They must get real tired of consumers showing up to get sized for equipment then going home and shopping online.....

I should buy a compressor, at the rate all the LDS's are going under, I'll be the only one doing air fills. It looks like that is the only way to make money in the dive industry anymore.

you'll just get frustrated because people will say "well I can get a fill at Willie's for $1 cheaper than you".

Forget that Willie's is a 30 minute drive away (each way) and their SUV gets 15mpg and gas cost them $4/gallon, costing them on average $16 in gas round trip to save $1 dollar per fill.

In memory of:

Peace Dive Center - Ventura
Aloha Dive Center - Woodland Hills

That's two more So-Cal dive centers within the past week.
