In memory of:

Peace Dive Center - Ventura
Aloha Dive Center - Woodland Hills

That's two more So-Cal dive centers within the past week.

Did I read that right? Peace is out of buisiness? I was just in there last week. They are servicing my Wifes reg.

Yeah, they decided that it was just better to concentrate on just the boat.

You haven't seen anything yet.

With the way the credit market has dried up and the economy has slowed down, they'll be dropping like flies.

What the, peace and aloha too?! Not that I go to either (except the boat). Well it doesn't seem like Malibu, Eco, and Hollywood aren't going anywhere though, thank god. As for air fills... there's always <shudder> sports chalet....

DEMA this year should be very telling.....folks, all indications are that we have 1-2 more years of global economic turmoil (or worse, if the Feds screws things up). Expect more stores to close.

God, what is that, 4 in a month?

5 with the one in OC (All Things Scuba?) that went out a few weeks before. Yeah, the season is over and those that had poor summers are paying the price. They must have had lots of gear on terms because I haven't seen any big sales from any of them.

I should buy a compressor, at the rate all the LDS's are going under, I'll be the only one doing air fills. It looks like that is the only way to make money in the dive industry anymore.

In NorCal we just lost one dive shop and I predict another within six months.

We DID buy Haven's Reef compressor and their cascade system. I won't even tell you how cheap it was...We plan to bank 32% since no one in our area of NorCal does nitrox. No plans to make money, just to keep our own tanks filled. When they say, where are you going to get your fills??? Simple from our own cascade system :D Leisure Pro, TDL, Scuba Toys, Dive Sports are our dive shops of choice. Plus they deliver to my door. No gas needed. Although my car gets 43-50 mpg.

For now. Don't be surprised if SC drops or very deeply cuts their Scuba sections. In addition to diminishing return on the inventory and floor space, they have rising insurance and liability costs. I was in my local SC store and wandered through the dept, and the wetsuit racks were bare, and the number of gear bag choices were about 1/2 normal. I doubt it was because of a huge push for the beginning of Lobster Season.

SC may have transfered inventory from non dive stores, (i.e, stores without pools), to dive stores. They just had the grand re-opening of the La Canada store, with a pool, so that might make sense. They do so much business with clothes and shoes I'm thinking they're not going anywhere for a while.

Huh, at this rate there is going to be a pretty empty DEMA.

What happens if you throw a party and nobody comes?

I haven't been to that store in awhile, where did they find room to put in a pool? Did they build a THIRD building?
