Who was diving in 1932?

Not that cylinder. It looks like a welding cylinder or something similar, most likely with some inert gas.
 
There is a German swastika on that one to the left of the 5-27 date , they stamped over it to make it look like a window pane.
The oldest oxygen cylinder I ever used was dated 1907.
 
It is an old cylinder made for the Linde Group which is well known in the gas supply world. Which though the company is of German origin I am not sure about the swastika comment above as that did not become a national symbol until the mid 30s. Possible it was added later but then the question would be how did it make it's way to the USA.
 
Interesting is that it was not originally + rated yet later in its life it became + rated. Cool cylinder.
