Genesis...what's that?...ranting about an LDS? It's their business to lose, he doesn't owe anybody anything?

Reminds me of the Three's Company episode where Jack and Chrissy had this mistunderstanding that ultimately had humorous consequences in the end... :)

I am a loyal lds supporter. As long as they support me! Some of the guys at the shop see me walk in and I know that I have an automatic 10% off of anything I want, thats nice I like that and it keeps me coming back. Also same guys never charge me for air, again I will shop nowhere else BUT the boss at the same store, a guy who I have known for years and who has in the past discounted items for me ALWAYS makes me beg for it.

And so on those days I check out the competition.

Retail guys should know their customers and treat us well. There are a million places that want to take our hard earned dollars. I find norcaldiver's attitude on this to be hilarious. I wouldnt buy ice cubes from him even if I was an eskimo, You arent actually IN sales I hope ?

10% off everything eh monterey?better tell genesis about this one right away so he can get HIS damn 10%..i think your both full of it..any shop that gives someone 10% off anything just for walking in the door aint too bright..thats for sure and hey you even get free fills too.hmm maybe you and genesis can open your own shop together..and hey genesis that comment about shops exist to serve you..your full of it pal..why dont you stick the hose from that compressor you are going to buy and inhale deeply ..this way we wont have to listen to you rant all the time..one thing i cant stand is when someone has their nose up in the air and thinks that everyone has to cater to them..take your business elsewhere if you dont like it..and monterey you said that as long as the lds supports you youll support them..hmm always someone that wants something for nothing..

To rant over getting 10% is nothing. Fighting for deeper discounts with an LDSs that's where the battle should be waged. Almost every shop in Southern California will give you 10% off for almost anything - signing up for a class, taking a trip with them, directing new business their way, being a regular customer, shopping during the winter season, joining a scuba club - literally anything will get you 10.

It seems we have two groups, both of which
are right. Genesis sees his relationship with
his LDS as purely business. Some others
[including me] have a symbiotic relationship.
We deal with the LDS for more than just
economic reasons. We have friends there
and we're willing to pay more to support
those friends in a low pay business.

We're both right. There was a speech
in the movie North Dallas Forty where
a player was ranting at a coach.."when
we call it a sport you say it's a business. When
we talk business you say it's a sport." Maybe
thats what we've got here.

For me, I'm willing to pay several thousand $s a
year for my hobby. The markup on equiptment
is peanuts and I'll pay it.:)

HAS IT OCCURED TO YOU THAT THE SHOP SIMPLY DOESN'T WANT YOU OR YOUR BUSINESS ANYWHERE NEAR THEM?

HEHE HEHE, LOL.... good one,

I'm surprised they don't flip the sign over to "closed" when they see him coming

What kind of person goes into business to NOT make money?? I would like to read the business plan they presented to the bank to get the loan to start the business.

Business plan for Loser's Dive Shop

We are starting a dive business because we love to dive.

We are not starting a dive business to make money so don't expect to have this loan paid back.

The dive business is a dog and only fools would open a shop to sell and repair equipment and train new divers.

Only the big manufacturers make money selling dive equipment to dive shops who sell at fixed prices. So we will need a line of credit to buy stuff to sell in our shop. No one will buy our equipment because we will make deals with these big corporations and sell our souls so that we can hang their equipment in our shop.

We will have no control over pricing, sales, organization or customer satisfaction. We will pass this control on to the manufacturer.

Oh, and by the way, we have no idea how to run a business.

Please, please, I can't stop laughing. They may not become millionaires--only the guys who own LeisurePro will reach that landmark--but they certainly are not starving!!

Loan? Bank?
Banks want capitol as insurance there isn't much of that in a dive shop unless you own a building. We started with all our own cash. Most banks are not going to give you a line of credit for buying merchandise unless you put up your house.

What's wrong with my attitude? I was completely cordial. Gen is the one that came in here crying and other people have complained about it and said they wouldn't even let him in their shop(if they had one). He's welcome here anytime, and I'll do my best, but remember, my best may not be good enough for everyone. BUT it's still my best. I know there are other guys out there (some we beat, some we don't), and the internet has great prices- no one cn compete with that.

but here's an example: lady that has never been in the shop before, in fact has driven 1.5 hours to get here, walks in the other day looking for a computer. we go over all the computers and descibe the pros/cons of eah one about 45 minutes playing with them. then she mentions that she needs all her gear. I say i can help her out and i'll cut here a break if she gets all her stuff and she can decide if she wants to do it or not. I honestly didn't think she was going to do it, i thought she was just looking, pricing stuff.

we go over everything, prolly about an hour and a half. bc, reg, octo, computer, clips, grage protector, gear bag, etc.

as i'm ringing everything up, she wants to look at a knife. we look at a few and she hems and haws back and forth.

she decides to hold off for whatever reason. spend over 1k, but wont get the $30 knife. she surprised me by picking up a set, so know it's her turn. I walk over, grab the knife she kept looking at (after she has paid) and throw it in her bag and say, just take the damn knife, you know you want it. she walks out a very happy girl.

end

so, again, what's wrong with my attitude?

Nothing at all. In fact, next time I need a knife maybe I'll come see you. If I decide to look at some other gear and hem and haw while you ring up the knife will you throw the other stuff (prolly about $1k worth) in the bag with it? :D (j/k)
