SWAG is an acronym (Scientific Wild A$$ Guess) and should be capitalized, just like SCUBA. Just sayin'.

Yet, the preferred way is to write Scuba. English evolves, and while I know what swag stands for, it's become a word in the English language. There are a lot of evolutionary words out there: GP evolved into Jeep (that's how everyone pronounced it), and with the advent of twitter/texting, we even see words such as idk, etc.

In that regard, instruction also evolves. Kneeling, once accepted as normal is anathema to quite a few of us. Some of the Scuba instructional practices of yesteryear were just as dangerous as putting 30 pounds on a 120 pound kid.

Did you assume my comment was for you?

no, I assumed that you were just taking a swipe at either the people defending PADI regarding this incident or the people bashing PADI. Either way, I thought is wasn't helpful. Although I may have been guilty of the same thing before myself, taking a random swipe at any group of people on a forum should at minimum precede or follow at least a crumb of useful information or opinion.

Excellent letter by Al. There are several points in there I had not thought of and he's a bit more pointed that I was. I can surely understand why.

PADI responds. Game On.

Damn, I've been thinking about and commenting on this too much. i know it's just an expression but this really isn't a game at all.

So, Al suggests that Brian's letter was dishonest. Do you think that's a fair assessment? I've tried not to assign motives, but I can certainly understand where Al is coming from on this.

Let's assume that Brian's letter was misinformed rather than dishonest. As exciting as Brian's letter was to read; I stand steadfast by my earlier comments that Brian's letter was not appropriate for TDI/SDI letterhead, and he made promises he knew his insurer would not support [now or] in future.

Am I to assume this letter is the precursor to the filing of PADI v. Carney?

Yes, probably.

yes, bad choice of terms. The point is that PADI has not seemed to notice the issue, but that is no longer true.

I doubt it. I would be surprised if they were to telegraph a move like that, although it would be the final straw for the PADI-bashers....."Industry Giant squashes useful dissent with legal actions."

I am hoping for the former, but I am not so naieve to dismiss any prurient motives.

Good question. I hadn't even thought of that possibility, but you certainly can't dismiss it.
