I have the option to do both or 1 or the other as I wish. There are off switches that are quite easy to use. It really is a matter of personal preference. I can use either depending on what I want to do. Taking video with the GoPro is easy and not much of a task load, it's all digital and if I don't like it I click on delete. I have a lot of lighting options, I have gotten some nice still pics using the video lights with my old sealife. I haven't had the RX-100 in the water yet, I look forward to the chance to do so. It's worth it to me. YMMV
Right, but the OP was asking about taking pictures and recording video at the same time. Which is very different from just having the capacity to take still photos with strobes OR shoot video with video lights on the same dive.
I have taken stills and video at the same time(with the my old sealife camera), with the GoPro it really isn't that difficult.
