I can only do 1 thing---semi good...(UW anyway)-----So--I guess it depends on how good are you @ multitasking?????.......

I have the option to do both or 1 or the other as I wish. There are off switches that are quite easy to use. It really is a matter of personal preference. I can use either depending on what I want to do. Taking video with the GoPro is easy and not much of a task load, it's all digital and if I don't like it I click on delete. I have a lot of lighting options, I have gotten some nice still pics using the video lights with my old sealife. I haven't had the RX-100 in the water yet, I look forward to the chance to do so. It's worth it to me. YMMV

Right, but the OP was asking about taking pictures and recording video at the same time. Which is very different from just having the capacity to take still photos with strobes OR shoot video with video lights on the same dive.

Like I said, I have taken stills using video lights with good results. With the flip filter in shallow water I have had good luck without the video lights. The options are many. I have taken stills and video at the same time(with the my old sealife camera), with the GoPro it really isn't that difficult. Sometimes I leave the whole thing on the boat, sometimes I take just one or the other, sometimes both. Again lots of options.

So to answer the OP, for me having both is great fun giving a lot of options. I have no regrets having purchased and using both.

My point wasn't that it is difficult to let the GoPro run while taking pictures.

Thanks, wow I didn't know that was possible. All I would need to do is press the shutter button to take a picture while I'm filming video?

Actually, when I don't take the big camera, I take a GoPro and just use that for stills. The trick is not to use the still photo mode, but just shoot video in fairly high resolution, and use frame grabs:

Do you have the 1st gen rx100? Then yes you can press the shutter while filming to take an image - you will see the word capture appear in the corner of the screen. You will see in section 1 of the menu "Image Size (Dual Rec)" this is the option for what size image it captures when shooting video. You can choose up to 17 mega pixel image.

If you have the newer rx100's then I am sure it is there, not sure if it is in the same spot.
