The hip pockets go on your HARNESS waist belt, not the danged weight belt. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Oh! Thanks for the clarification. I'm curious why I would use trim pockets, instead of just threading the weight on the camband?

1. Trim pockets work for soft weights.

2. It's a heck of a lot easier switching BC between tanks if you do NOT have weights permanently installed.

Also, what do people think about just using velcro pouches, mounted upside down to make a ditchable weight pouch? I feel like it could work just as well, and probably save a bundle.

I wouldn't trust the Velcro to hold. Mount them right side up, and if you want to ditch the weight, just open the flap and pop the weight up and out from the bottom, easy enough to do with hard weights. Since I seem to be doing more back rolls off pangas these days, I replaced my Velcro weight pouches with ones using a Fastex buckle as a back-up(Extreme Exposure).

Distributing the weight throughout the system will make it more comfortable to wear. I would consider the advice about using a weighted single tank adapter to place weight evenly along your back and then place weight in pouches that fit on the cam bands. Then, place some weight in ditchable weight pouches on the waist band of your harness. The idea is to have enough ditchable weight that you can jettison in an emergency within reach that will establish positive buoyancy in recreational diving while reserving enough on the rig that will provide even distribution for better trim, pitch, roll and yaw.

Would you not agree that this makes your streamlined clean front wing not have a clean front anymore? I’m not saying this just to say it but I thought the whole premises of the harness was to have less *crap* in front of you. I personally would just stick with the weight belt. Put max 15 pounds on it IMO.

You'll never notice a couple of weight pockets on your waist belt tucked up against your back plate.
