Similar but not quite the same.

What AdivingBel and I are describing is not a dive op catering to certain customers but rather recognizing and adapting dives to the abilities of their divers, not a one size fits all approach. My diving would not impact your diving in any way since you might not even see much of me during the dive and you certainly would not be require to adjust your dives to match mine.

The dive you describe that irritated you would simply not happen with the dives we are discussing.

I am curious how your operator would handle divers like the hunters and photog I described in my post. Would they be left on their own and the boat finds them when they surface ?

I honestly don’t know. If they don’t know the divers or their skills, I imagine they would be just as unhappy with this as any other dive op. If they know them and feel confident in their ability to manage themselves and the dive, they would probably have an agreement on their dive plan and when/where/how they will surface.

I am asking this because I have a couple days booked with 3 P's in January for the first time.. I will be solo, I will not know anyone on the boat nor will anyone know me. I have read quite a bit about the freedom they offer. What kind of experience should I expect, especially since it is only two days? Are the boats mostly regulars that branch off on their own?

I have to admit I’ve come across lone divers and it’s odd, to me anyway. Sure goes against all the lessons I was taught. We are happy when we’ve got Dario and no photogs, we’ve got no patience for hanging around while others are taking pictures/video. Me and my son hunt but don’t hold up the group and give the DM the Leons.

From our experience with them, although it's been a couple years since we've moved on, it is heavily dependent on the DM.

I would be interested to hear more. It is true that their two primary DMs are very different with different guide styles and what works well for one diver may not for the next. But I don’t think this is vastly different from any other dive op with different boats and crew. That is why repeat customers will often request certain boats and/or crew.

I think that is called a hijack.

Not so. The Op was relating his experience with Aldora and as threads do, and should, it expanded and evolve to include related experiences.

One of these, and I think an important one, is that you require all your boats to ascend as a group. A relevent side discussion is that not all dive ops in Cozumel have this policy.

But of course if the Op does not like the direction of his thread all he need do is report it and ask for deletion.
