I beleive the deal with the free octo ends the 31st of July. Just checked some prices on them and will check the prices at my LDS, they said they would work with me on gear pricing and they seem like they would try to keep my business. Very nice people so far.

The free octo deal ends July 31. You can get 10% off msrp on an AL product at a LDS if you push the issue, even more if you know how to structure the deal.

Being a student I get a 10% at my LDS, plus they give credit towards purchases from previous purchases depending on the amount bought. Think I've got like $35 to use so far. And looking for a wetsuit/bcd-bp/w so I'm sure we can haggle on a package deal.

Im not sure if every LDS does this, but if your going to buy a complete package (i.e. BDC or BP/W, reg, octo, and computer) then they will do much better then 10%. Talk to the LDS manager, and see what kind of deal they will do for you if you buy a complete set of gear. Dont be afraid to ask for a deal, if the LDS is smart, they will want you to walk away buying the gear from them. They will make back the difference on you in no time when it comes to air fills, tank rentals, etc.

Aqualung is one of those companies that forces dealers to agree to 'price fixing' as part of the dealer agreement. In reality this is against the law but it continues regardless. (but that's a whole other thread to argue it on....)

AL dealers are supposed to sell everything at MSRP but the dealer agreement also allows them to sell it at 10% below list. They also cannot advertise for anything below 10% off list per the dealer agreement.

However, you'll find that most shops will go below the 10% off. Many of them will sell AL for 20% to 30% off. Just remember that you don't have to "settle" with paying Aqualungs "dealer agreement price" at your LDS just because Aqualung is trying to force "price fixing".

Like 7milehi said, it also depends on how you structure the deal. Aqualung has no control over if you buy a "package deal" for one price that might include some other manufacturers equipment.

I don't suggest buying AL Leisure Pro because of warranty concerns, but you can use it as a "base price" to see what "bottom dollar pricing" is available on Aqualung products. Most likely it's hard to get your LDS to meetin LP's price, but they should be able to come close to it and still make a profit on the gear purchase.

If they want your business, they will be competitive.

Thats true, and excatly what the owner at my LDS had said, "we want your business if you find it on the net cheaper let me know, we will try to match it" That right there told me he was serious, and I have a comfortable feeling about all the people there so far. Only taking the first night I was totally hooked on this (always had wanted to do this before) and know that I will be a life long member of the diving community. So I have no qualms about buying my equipment now, or trying on new things to get the feel for it before I buy it. And I would rather buy at the LDS if the price is comparable because I would rate talk face to face than email or phone.

As for packages...well only have my fins, mask, boots, snorkle, and bag. So I got alot to get, mainly a bcd or bp/w and wetsuit, reg are my mains at the moment. Already I'm looking to book a diving trip as asap after I get my cert. Unreal how natural I felt in the water with a reg...it totally blew my mind!

I really liked to chrome finish of the 200 (yes the bling got me).

I'll give apex props, they do look darn sexy. You'll get more chicks then I

Since Im in the NE, Im going to need an additional reg on my pony, so Im going to pick up ATX100.

Why not an XTX100? Should be the same price.

Yup, those scuba equipment groupies are all lining up at my door, just please dont tell my wife

My shop has it for $50 less, since it's going to be for a pony bottle I figure it will be perfect. I dont need the right/left hand side hose routing, even though if I ever go go double's the option might be nice.... hrmm maybe I'll have to pick up the XTX100.... :)

Sounds like you have a LDS that has good service and is competitive on price. Consider yourself lucky. sounds like you found the right place for your $$$.

Hopefully, only 2 days with them but the owner was very up front about everything, the Instructors are very helpful and friendly also. Basically I was very comfortable with them from the on set, we'll see tomorrow what I can do on prices, I would like to try a bp/w in the pool or another jacket as I didnt like the fit of the one I first went in with. Felt like a life preserver...very bulky.
