For those of you fortunate enough to be on the island in mid May there is an air show at the private plane airport near Chankanaab Park. It's free & features several world class aerobatic pilots performing some great stunts up close to where the spectators are, which is very entertaining but not without risks. Due to the layout of the runway being cut through jungle there isn't much of a safety zone between the runway & spectator area so keep that in mind & make your own decisions re personal safety. As far as I know it's still free to attend and the air show is Sunday the 18th and the 17th is both a practice day & meet & greet the pilots event. Also note that when I attended the 2012 show taxis weren't allowed to enter the airport so you had about a 1/2 mile walk in & out but it was well worth it if you're into this kind of thing. Also note that photography is challenging because you're shooting towards the sun so watch your exposures & dial in some + EC & use shutter speeds from 1/320 or slower for prop blur when appropriate.

If you're brave enough you'll be about this close to the action if you want.

From what I can tell his Knife Edge take off is a trademark of his performances. He puts the plane into a Knife Edge almost the instant he gets airborne & flies it right past the spectator area then flies out enough to turn around & do it again in the opposite direction. He did several very low passes which are very exciting when you're that close to the action, but if it ever goes wrong it's not going to be a pretty site. On some passes he put on the smoke which adds to the performance but kills photos for a while
