I am looking to buy an Aeris Epic when they come out next month. I currently use a Uwatec Smart Com and am looking into the Aeris as a backup/normal everyday watch. Does anyone have any info on the Epic besides what is in the catalog? Is it the same computer as the Oceanic Atom 1.0?

Exactly the same internally. Slightly different case and display design, different strap design. Same transmitters. Both the Epic and Oceanic Atom are made by Pelagic Pressure Systems (an Oceanic company).

There is quite a lot of information/comments re the Atom on this board.

That’s would be a pretty pricey backup/everyday watch. Bear in mind also that the Aeris utilizes a different algorithm to the Uwatec—Aeris/Oceanic uses the more aggressive Haldanean algorithm to the Uwatec’s Buhlmann. This would make the Aeris Epic ok as a backup (as it is more aggressive than your Smart Com), but it might be a good idea (IMHO) to have two computers that utilise the same algorithm just to simplify things during a dive. Just my 2c.

Price really doesn't matter. I just wanted a new watch. I had narrowed it down to 4 "watches": the Oceanic Atom, the Mares Nemo, the Scubapro/Uwatec Xtender and the Citizen Cyber Aqualand NX. Then I found out that Aeris was coming out with theirs.

I think that I would prefer an air-integrated rather than just a "plain computer". I really wish that Uwatec would make an air-integrated "watch"!!!
