Hi there! My girlfriend and I are wanting to get our advanced open water certification. We are looking at Texas because it's closest and has ocean access. My problem is that all of the classes that I can find either use pools or local lakes. Can any of you recommend a shop that does boat dives in the Gulf for the open water portion of the class?

Thank you!
Michael

Hello Michael:

We are one of the few diveshops in the area that does the AOW deep dive offshore. For the AOW and the deep certification we usually go to a rig 25 miles offshore. We think that it gives divers a better experience than doing the AOW deep dive in an inshore lake. You can check out our web page for additional details and email us if you have any questions.

Texas doesn't have anything for dive spots except many miles out. The coast slopes very gradually out into the Gulf. You would be better off to dive the lakes and then go to Florida.
