What major US car rental companies are located within a block or two of the Cozumel ferry dock?

Has anyone used Ace Rent a Car in Playa Del Carmen?
Playa Del Carmen Airport, MX, Car & Van Rentals -- ACE Rent a Car

They are at the PDC airport which I'm told is just a couple of blocks from where the ferry Docks, is this correct?

Any other advice on a Rental in PDC appreciated. We will be traveling from Coz to PDC via ferry, renting a car and driving to Tulum and back.

What additional insurance should I purchase at the time of rental?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi If you email Edgar at ISIS car rental at pdc he will do what you need. Edgar is the nephew of Margarita from Coz, she is very reputable as Edgar is. I use them when ever I am at those locations. Very honest and they dont try to make a claim of dents that you didnt do. Also about the insurance they must give you insurance for liability but for replacement that is up to you. My travel visa will cover me but I must pay for the damage up front. Be aware that you cannot leave the country if you have not paid for any damages or claims. I hope this helps a little.
O ya the ISIS is located about a four dollar cab ride to the Casa Tucan on Calle 4 norte.

I second ISIS. As Kevin said, it's on Calle 4 Norte, between Aves. 10 & 15 -- an easy walk from the ferry pier. I believe that collision with 10% deductible is included in the rental rate and you can buy 0% deductible. Rates are a little higher than in Cozumel but very reasonable for Playa and very convenient.

I got an email back from Edgar with ISIS in PDC. He indicates that their CDW coverage is a 10% deductable, and that is the maximum they offer in both Cozumel and PDC.

They sound great but I'm a little nervous about renting without 0% deductable coverage. Any other recommendations?

Who told you that? I don't know where the PDC airport is, but it's not at the ferry dock.

If I were just going to Tulum, I'd take the bus - which is 2 or 3 blocks from the ferry. I'm renting to go to Coba tho.

Don: Its supposed to be an airstrip within a couple of blocks, but maybe they meant of the square?

Who are you planning on renting with? We will be driving to Tulum in the morning and diving a Cenote at Hidden Worlds which about 15min north of Tulum at 1pm.

I'd like a car so we leave on our own schedule. If things went like clockwork I'd thought of visiting Coba as well either before or after our Cenote dive. How far from Tulum is it?

Thanks.

Anyone got a Can-Do map of PDC? I haven't ordered one yet. Google maps shows a bridge from Coz to PDC and I've seen how accurate Google maps are on the road to Holbox - so I'm not believing them, and I really can't find any good online Mexico maps. I have a AAA map being mailed, but don't know what it'll show...?

Well, this map of the dock area is helpful - link then thumb: Playa del Carmen Map : TravelYucatan.com

And it links to this one: http://www.travelyucatan.com/playa_del_carmen_mexico/playa_del_carmen_map.pdf

We walked all around the area to the north/right of the docks in the map last year. Never realized there was a strip off to the south/left? :shocked2: Sorry about my doubt.

We may rent from Easyway/Cancun car rental again as linked above by wedivebc above. Knowing from that experience how they are about time commitments, we may also reserve with others. Our one-day car rental is not much business to them so they may easily lose our car if they get a chance to rent for several days to someone else. They are but a few blocks from the ferry dock, on 30 Ave Norte maybe and a tricycle porter will carry your bag(s) if you have dive gear to hump. I do like their flat-rate $25-for-all insurance, but I still check the car and spare tire closely on check-out and check-in.

National, Thrifty, and Alamo all have nice rates and you can phone their 800 numbers to ask for distances from the dock? I haven't gotten that far yet. Have you ever driven in Mexico? Lots of speed bumps/topes! I rented a manual shift last time, but it was so underpowered that I was constantly shifting; renting automatic next time!

Tulum ruins are about an hour from PDC I hear, with Coba ruins being an hour further I think. We're just taking hiking gear, cameras, cooler to fill after we leave the dock, and maybe snorkel gear. Ruins and Cenote scuba in same day would be pushing it.
