Ive got a real tight layover in Grand Cayman flying to Cayman Brac (45 minutes) and I'd like to have a backup plan if I miss the last flight out. Any recommendations for places to stay one night in Grand Cayman on short notice.

Comfort Suite (edit) on 7 mile beach....usually has the best prices for a beach hotel....it's actually blocked by another building, but a easy quick walk to the beach or places to eat.

The Comfort Suites is generally a good choice for a short stay on GC; you are easy walking distance to restaurants and bars - but hopefully you won't need to got there because you will want to start your Cayman Brac vacation without delays!

The flights to Little Cayman are tighter than Brac because the LC airport is small and only accepts little planes and it doesn't have lights - so you can only fly in and out of LC during daylight. But Cayman Brac has a larger (lighted) airport and they accept jets, turboprops, as well as smaller propeller planes - plus they serve as a connection point to flights elsewhere in the Caribbean; so there is a good chance that they will get there the same day.

What day of the week and time are you flying into GC? When you arrive on GC, there are sometimes long lines to get through customs and immigration - and then you have to claim and recheck your bags for CB, and go through GCM security to get to the departure lounge to board your flight to CB. So 45 minutes does seem like an awfully tight layover and you could miss your flight to CB - hopefully there will be later flights to CB that you can catch.

Here's another option, I have not tried this but there are "Meet and Greet" services available on GC (see the links below) that will ease your passage and make sure that you make your connections on time, @Testudo may be able to give you more information because he is a local.

Meet and Greet Service – CEO’s Welcome
Businesses on the island are not always promptly responsive to emails, so if you don't get a response try calling them at +1 (345) 943-7070

Here's another service but they may be more expensive:
Royal Airport Concierge

Sunday is a busy day but you are arriving late so most of the traffic will be over so you might make it, but that is still a very tight connection. You might want to try the meet and greet service to get you in and out as quickly as possible.

Are your flights all booked on one ticket? I am surprised that they let you book such a tight connection.

Are you staying at the Cayman Brac Beach Resort? You can try calling Reef Fantaseas, their booking agent, to ask for advice, see below, good luck.

You ain't gonna make it unless your flight lands early. Going through Cayman Immigration, picking up bags and then checking in on Cayman Air takes more like 60-90 minutes in my experience. You then have to go through security. The smoothest I've ever gone through the whole deal and onto a plane to CB or LC has been 60 minutes and that was the exception, rather than the rule.

In the middle of the day, I would agree with Doctor, but I have made it through very fast a few times on the late afternoon United flight. There are typically no other flights in front of you, your bags are waiting when you come through immigration, and there is not much line (if any) to check into Cayman Express and get through security. Your biggest obstacle is likely to be getting through immigration quickly. I would pick your seats to be very close to the front or the back of the plane, as they typically use both front and rear doors to deplane on GCM. That should get you to the front of the immigration line and give you a chance to make it. 45 mins is VERY short, but is possible late in the afternoon like that.

Also, at Immigration, tell the officer directing that you have a flight to catch and they might let you into the Cayman resident line. Good luck, but IMO, doubtful that you will make the connection.
