The CDFG Abalone Recovery & Management Plan (ARMP) needs you!

If you see abs while you are diving anywhere off Southern California please take good notes (and pix if possible) and then follow-up with Ian Taniguchi, Associate Marine Biologist, CDFG-MR. I created a webpage with the details on what to do with your data.

Bookmark for future use! Thanks.

Hmmm... I'll have to pull out my images of abs in Catalina's Dive Park. Thanks Debbie. Just got back from my "avoid the severe soCal winter" trip and am ready to dive the Park this weekend.

I remember back in the mid 70's, there used to be TONS of abalone. My brother would take me down to the cliffs while he dove. (Now that I'm certified, I guess he was using me as his "buddy"!!) He would not be underwater long, and he would always come up with a full bag. We always had the back yard LITTERED with abalone shells...

I remember the spot, but I'm hesitant to share. It's NOT a known dive spot, but would be easy entry and exit on a calm day.

I remember when the abs were all over the place and they were BIG! Reds, Blacks, Whites, Pinks...lot's of every kind. There weren't so many urchins either.
