The problem you have is quite common, a capacitor on the pc board is faulty and needs to be replaced. This capacitor stores a small charge used to retain memory of time/date/settings. It is designed to store this information for some? minutes whilst batteries are changed. There was a faulty batch as Olympus were replacing them under warranty (when they were still under warranty).
Check out this link for a photo of the part. I don't know that you may want to tackle replacing it yourself though!
