Won't read through the entire thread but I certainly had a great three weeks backpacking and diving through Thailand. Never paid more than $10/night for accommodations (usually much less), I could take a lovely dive buddy out to dinner for $5, the people in the south (forget Bangkok IMHO) were truly all smiles, the land is beautiful. I hope to return.
